I'm in Holland, Michigan and I've got a couple of campgrounds that I really enjoy. I'll list a few details about each.

We camp each year in August at a campground called White River Camp Ground located in Montague, MI on the White River. We usually spend Saturday on a lazy canoe trip on the river, its nice and peaceful. You can rent the canoe or kayak at the Mohawk Livery and they will take you up a few miles and you can take the canoe/kayak all the way back to the campground.

We have also spent some time at Ludington State Park and it is very beautiful there. You can experience the dunes close by or spend time at Lake Michigan or just enjoying the local wilderness. Its very nice, but we don't go much anymore because it's nearly impossible to get a site, you have to book like 6 months in advance.

We are members of a cooperative in Delton, MI called Circle Pines Center. CPC is located on Stewart Lake near Yankee Springs (about an hour north of Kalamazoo, MI). Circle Pines is a community founded on peace, ecology, coooperation and justice. They have a summer camp until August, but after that they have many cabins, tenting spaces and alternate lodging spaces available. We get together as members at various times of the year, but camping is also available most of the time regardless of what is going on at CPC. At member meeting times, (membership not required to attend or camp), we folk dance, pick apples, make cider, have political discussions, camp, eat good food (mostly vegetarian), have bond fires and generally enjoy nature.

Anyway, that's what I have for you.

    Peace & Light to you.

My two favorite places to camp in Illinois are, Starved Rock State Park in Utica, and Giant City State Park down by Carbondale.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has an excellent website which provides info on camping throughout the state:

    http://www.dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/Programs/Camping/index.htm

If you are planning on camping on the weekend you should make advanced reservations (especially for Starved Rock); there is a mail-in reservation form that you can download on the IL DNR site.

About Michigan, Stay on the west side of the state and travel north. You will find all kinds of camping. Make a stop near Sleeping Bear dunes, beautiful!
Then If you're near Charlevoix, take the ferry out to Beaver Island and there's a few campgrounds there. It is a wonderful little island, and the people who live there are so kind and welcoming :)
Also if you go to the Upper Peninsula there is(was) a wonderful campground just over the Mackinaw bridge. Right after you go over the bridge you head West on Hwy 2. Within 15 or 20 miles there is a big wooden sign for Hiawatha Trails on the left. Just drive back there. There is a ?women? that owns the joint. She will let you stay there right on the beach for like $8. There is a sweat lodge, and very kynd vibe.
    Beautiful!!!!
You can walk on this sandbar forever in Lake Michigan!
    Have fun!
