laststand thanks for lettin me know about that lol . hey man gotta idea "why dont yer put a bread thread up ..now theres a thought eh......
Bread was a 1970s rock and roll band from Tulsa, Oklahoma by way of Los Angeles, California. They are a primary example of what later was labeled as "soft rock". David Gates (keyboard, vocals) and Jimmy Griffin (guitar, vocals) formed the group in 1968, adding Robb Royer (guitar, vocals, of Pleasure Faire) before signing to Elektra Records. Bread, the band's debut album, was a failure. Their second album established Bread as a major act, hitting the mainstream with "Make It With You". Hiring Mike Botts (drums), Bread began touring and recording Manna, which included their most enduring hit, "If". When Royer left the group, he was replaced by Larry Knechtel in time for a hit album called Baby I'm-A Want You, followed by the hit "Guitar Man". Personal disputes between Gates and Griffin soon broke up the band. Griffin felt that the singles should have been split between the two, however Gates had written most of the songs. Gates and Griffin then began solo careers. After a successful reunion in 1976, Bread released the album Lost Without Your Love in 1977. The title track was the band's last top-ten hit, and it peaked at number 9. Tensions between Gates and Griffin soon drove the band apart again, this time permanently.
I have been listening to bread since 1970 the sweet melodys and wonderful lyrics are timeless and still can bring a tear to your eye and make you think of a time gone by when times were easier and slower. Make you think of loved ones past and present and just make you feel good. This is a band that is will continue to be heard for many years to come. They rank right up there with Dan Fogelberg, todd Rungren, James taylor, and Jime croce. All great musicians who have a talent to make us think outside ourselves and be able to forget for a moment the trials of life and that for me is the point of music. does it speak to the heart? I even have all the origional vinyls of this great band and feel honored to be blessed to hear their great work.
all good stuff man .....took the courtesey opened a bread thread up for ye............hope you did"nt mind as this is a carpenters thread ..........
Karen had a voice like no other. There's been some releases of old standards that she recorded later in her career, such as Little Girl Blue. She was good at the big band type of music too. Her voice was cut out for melancholy. Jim Croce was great too with mellow music and existential themes. He cut a string of excellent material right before his death. I saw his widow on TV a while back. He had called her right before he boarded the plane that crashed. She was in a hurry and cut him off short during the call. She said the last words she heard as she hung up the phone was "I love you." .
yeeaahh.Theres a film about their life - it's quite engaging. I always play We've only just begun and close to you in the restaurant on the piano just as everyones winding down. She had a nice voice
i totally love karen carpenter, jim croce, and bread. they might have been popular years before i was born. but talent is talent. and they each had it. unlike many of the image hungry artists in the music business now. thanks for posting this! jenny
Karen had such a great voice. I can't think of any other women vocalists that sound quite like that. There is cool movie called "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story" by Todd Haynes that was made with all Barbie dolls as the principal actors. It is really well done.
thank you " i love your pictures " ..........just listenin to for all we know and one love .karens voice is certainly unique "angelic"
Yeah, angelic Karen. That reminds me of "Angelique" from Mike Oldfield's last album (Light + Shade) and a voice saying: Look at me, Look at me... *sighs* ♥ Love ♥ IAO |o| Ø
The other day I was remembering that Karen started as a drummer!!! Quite a revelation for those days ♥ Love ♥ IAO |o| Ø
