Hey.. where do you think my nick comes from? I've had this nick as long as my crush on the velvet underground.. the first song I heard from them was 'the gift' when I was ± 16.. I was in the backseat of a car and it just hypnotised me. I've been highly addicted to them since, although I usually only listen to them when in a 'darker' mood. Strangly enough, I'm not really into Lou Reed's solo stuff (saw'm once life, wasn't a big hit) or into Nico's solo music (does anyone know that? It's reallllly bizar stuff). Can't really say what my favorite song is.. really depends on the situation. Gotta love'm all!
By which I mean that it's tone is stark and spidery-sounding. (I just felt like explainig myself better).
The Velvet Underground kick ass, of what I've heard of them so far. I own their debut album. It's a bit of a shame Nico left after that one IMO, I rather liked her. I know nothing of the story behind that though.
Hehe, yeah, I made it last night for fun. I was just screwing around in Photoshop and figured I'd put that in my sig. Thanks for the compliment!
Um, I have a question for The Velvet Underground experts here: Did Lou Reed always play lead guitar or did Sterling Morrison sometimes play lead? I know that Reed plays lead on "I Heard Her Call My Name," but I'm not sure about songs like "Sister Ray," "Run Run Run," and "European Son." On what songs does Morrison play lead, if any?
i don't have an answer for that question but i do have some shit to say about my love for the velvet underground cause i think they're one the best bands to have an expiremental sound that is timeless. their music is the kind that will never become old and will continue to inspire future rock visionaries. my personal favorite album of theirs is their debut cause firstly it just fucking rocks... i was blown away the first time i listened to it (and continue to be) and secondly i really appreciate nico's contrabution to the their sound, no one could do all tomorows parties better, which leads into my favorite velvet underground songs... sunday morning, venus in furs, herion, femme fatal, sweet jane, rock and roll, pale blue eyes, ... i could on forever so i'll limit myself to these for now. Continuing from the topic of the velvet underground or lou reed in particular, what are people's favorite lou reed solo albums or songs. i personally have been listening to alot of stuff from transformer lately, i love satelite of love so much. it's quite different from his stuff with the underground in ways. i guess the velvet underground's sound is really the result of the band as a unite. well thats all for now.
the velvet underground are getting to be a bit over rated i think for what they are. lou reed solo albums can be good. transformer is probably his best, followed by berlin. i cant beleive metal machine music got a CD release!!!
the lou reed albums i heard are lou reed, transformer, berlin, metal machine music. Out of those four transformer is without a doubt the best.
Has anyone heard the new Velvet Underground live album? I believe it's supposed to be of their last performance before they broke up. Also, Maureen doesn't play on it, Doug Yule's brother plays drums (I think). Has anyone heard it yet? I'll probably pick it up soon.
Yep, there is... and I went ahead and got it yesterday. It's called Live at Max's Kansas City. It's pretty good, I think. It's a 2-CD set of songs from throughout their career performed there as a "last performance." What's really interesting about it though it that it's very upbeat compared to their other live recordings. The main reason is that Maureen isn't on drums. Doug Yule's brother (I believe) plays drums in a more traditional, rock 'n' roll sense. It really changes the songs. It's definitely worth a purchase for the serious VU fan. The quality of the recordings is also quite good. They're MUCH better than the Quine tapes.
Oh, i've got the original Live at Max's Kansas City album from 1972 (this one only contains the highlights of the set). I see that this new version is a deluxe edition with the entire set..
