The Dixie Chicks' new album has already sold more than a half million copies. Shows how much the political landscape of this country has changed in 3 years. I'm not a fan of their music or country music in general, but I have to hand it to them, they're making a hell of a lot better comeback than George W. Bush ever will!
I don't even listen to country but I may go and buy their CD to piss off those narrow minded rednecks.
LOL I don't know if I'd go that far, there are still radio stations that won't play them. And in the south, people still hate them, especially Natale. I don't listen to country either, but I like some of the chicks songs. Don't buy music either. But I'm glad they stuck by what they believe in that is for sure, and I really do hope they make a difference. Good for them!
When the Dixie Chicks played London in 2003, 10 days before the Iraq invasion, Natalie Maines said, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." In the resulting backlash a lot of country stations refused to play their music, anti Dixie Chick rallies were held where their CDs were burned and smashed, and they even received death threats. Personally I would have been more tactful than Maines was, but that's just me. She apparently believes in speaking her mind bluntly and accepting the consequences, and hasn't changed her position after 3 years. Country music is a traditionally conservative medium, but if rock & roll can have conservatives like Ted Nugent, then country can certainly have liberals like the Dixie Chicks.
Oh yeah I think I remember something about that and then the intellectual amoeba formerly known as Maddona tried to cash in by doing all that pro american BS but it failed to be as cool as she thought it was yeah I remember that episode now - cheers but why raise it again after so long - whats the point yr makin?
*Sigh* Okay once again, the Dixie Chicks have come out with a new album which has already sold more than a half million copies. Shows how much the political landscape of this country has changed in 3 years.
0.5MM is just a drop in the bucket for an act of that calibre. Fairly safe bet the $$$ Folks are concerned. Saw a recent interview w/'engage mouth before Brain'... Good Lawdy
A drop in the bucket? That was the sales figure for the album's first week! Billboard lists the album at #1! Apparently YOU engage mouth before brain!
Still a safe bet. Apparently you didn't see the interview...... or did you? *L* Lemme know when when you adopt an objective view on the subject...
It's not just a safe bet but a known fact the the $$$ Folks were worried that this album wouldn't sell, but it's going multi-platinum! Maybe not in the meandering Nation of Texas but in the rest of the world! No I didn't see the interview, what's your point? You might interpret it one way (wishing they'd shut the fuck up) while someone else would say they told it like it is. And how am I not objective? I've said that I'm not a fan of theirs and I would have been more tactful than Maines, I just see the success of their new album as a slap in GWB's face, which pleases me a lot. It appears you consider an objective view to be one that's the same as yours.
As they're an act (an understatement) originating here it's sorta Family. Don't really expect outsiders to understand... *c* http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=peopleNews&storyID=2006-06-02T232340Z_01_N02215868_RTRIDST_0_PEOPLE-ALBUMS-DC.XML&pageNumber=1&imageid=&cap=&sz=13&WTModLoc=NewsArt-C1-ArticlePage1 I'm contanstly amazed at the Press available on garbage topics......
I read or heard somewhere that when they formed they weren't even trying to really be country anyway, but rather they were more forced into it because that is the genre that they could easily break into where they are from. Now I can't remember where I got that info, so it could be wrong, but I could have swore I heard it on like behind the music or some dumb shit like that.
Well unless the criteria have changed for saying that something is either objective or subjective, then I would say pretty much so - if anyone believes they have an objective viewpoint - reason would dictate that we would all share the view - such as the fact that - all sighted persons that have access to the outside world will not have missed the evidence that the sun exists! an opjective view is one that no person could fail to agree with. A subjective veiw point is one which is biased by our perspective an objective view point is one which coresponds to a shared perspective
They didnt seem to have alot of knowledge to back up their stand lastnight on Larry King... it seem Natalie is the only one doing the talking.... I'll bet the other chicks didnt even realize what the backlash would be. Natalie shot her mouth off, you dont go to another country and diss your own ... you're right when you said she coulve used more tact. I think they're cute though.
Our attack dogs in uniform and the Military Industrial Complex they unquestionably serve have been doing just that by their militant actions around the globe for generations. Actions speak louder than words and nothing "disses" a nation more in the eyes of the world than forcing its will upon other nations and peoples at the point of a gun.
