    Opeth is fucking amazing.

And about your DT choice...there are other Petrucci solos that kick Train of Thought's ass...lol. JP doesn't solo on TOT as he does on other albums. He does too much shredding and wanking...but still, I think he's amazing. I just wouldn't choose TOT as my choice of Dream Theater solos. :)

    Yes that's a good one! :D

I prefer the solo in "Yet Another Movie" off of the live album "Delicate Sound of Thunder" But that's my favorite song by my favorite band, so I'm a bit prejudiced... *grin* (That one was David Gilmour, BTW :p )

One guitarist whom no one has mentioned yet is Prince. He is one of my favorite musicians, and has some amazing guitar solos as well. Here are some songs with great solos from him:

    'When Doves Cry'
    'Computer Blue'
    'Let's Go Crazy'
    'Purple Rain'
'I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man'
    'Cinnamon Girl'

I'm sure that he has others as well, but I haven't heard all of his material yet.

did anyone else find someone peculiar about this statement?

anyways, i'm going to ahve to say the solo in heartbreaker by led zeppelin really blows my mind.
and i don't know if this counts as a solo, btu if you ever ehar the live version of shine on you crazy diamond by pink floyd it really is amazing.

Freebird by Lynard Skynard is a great solo...I've got a couple of versions of Littlewing played by Stevie Ray Vaughan...one is live and it is the most perfect piece of guitar playing I think I've heard.

I like early Eric Clapton stuff with John Mayall and Cream. Infact there are too many to list!

Doc Watson windy and warm is a really good acoustic solo piece as is Hear my train a comin by Hendrix. It's played on a 12 string guitar!

The Solo in 'For the Love of God'

..or the solo in the song White Cluster by Opeth. Close call.

Yeah, their mid-older stuff is more appealing in my books..but as for too much shredding and wanking, naawww...

The so called "solo" in Freebird isn't actually a solo. It's either a duo or trio.
