I picked up the stuff for dinner tonight for everyone BUT myself. We splurged a little & picked up some half-size 12 grain hoagie buns (and Hansen's mandarin lime sodas... on clearance 6 cans for $2!!!) and I'd thought I had more veggies in the fridge, but when I got home I didn't have what I remembered. What do you like to put on a sandwich? I've got carrots, romaine, salad onions & Italian dressing, salsa and all sorts of oriental toppings in the fridge, and tons of black beans & black olives in the cupboards. But my husband is willing to pick whatever I'd like up on the way home from work this evening if I can give him a short list within the next 3 hours. What's your favorite??? I'm considering avocado, black olives, romaine, tomato, onion, peppers & maybe mushrooms with the Italian dressing. (kind of copying my favorite Quiznos sub) But I'd love to try something new too love, mom
personally, I'd make do with what you have and let your sweetie get home faster. grate the carrots, toast the bread and look for other condiments. drain and rinse the beans, with your kids, maybe mash them (with the salsa?) so the beans stick to the bread. Cukes or pickles? red peppers? maybe rub a garlic clove on the bread before toasting.
I put all kinds of veggies on it......even corn. I eat hoagie sandwiches all the time. I recently started putting beans on it. sometimes I only put lettuce, pickles, olives, and salad onions----the green part.
I got a veggie sandwich from a bread place recently and it was really gooood... Let's see it had lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions and like a ranch-like dressing on it. It was really good! I personally don't like avocados or mushrooms but I miss eating sandwiches so I'm glad I found that one. =) But really, I guess you could put anything on a sandwich hehe.
