One thing I can say too is this is just on liver problems, I dont know if it's going to help the kidneys at all, our neighbor at the lake died of kidney failure because of the alchohol he drank. His kidneys shut down, therefor the potasium in his blood increased to the point that it stoped his heart. There may be a possibility of it haveing some advantages but there are alot of other things that can cause death being an alchoholic.
see, I dont understand why people would drink decaffinated coffee, or decaffinated soda, whats the point?? just like nonalcoholic beer...... why?? the only reason why I drink that stuff is for the buzz.
along the same lines as kc's op, thiamine helps prevent wernicke's encephalopathy. so alcoholics need to take their bvitamines too (prevents some of the long-term brain damage) the genes that cause alcoholism and depression are linked, so i wonder if the coffee drinking thing would benefit pple with depression as well. ps, coffee is very very bad for people with problems regulating their blood sugar. i'm not supposed to drink it because it makes my blood sugar crash.
Heres some even better news for us male alcoholics. http://www.bestsyndication.com/Arti...l_prevent_prostate_cancer_and_enlargement.htm Beer prevents testicular cancer. Sure 17 a day or whatever, but a little buzz is worth it if it'll keep your boys straight. And you can just settle the score with a couple pots of coffee.
You have a good point here, in the days when I drank regular coffee. If I got depressed and had a cup it would bring me back around. For some reason though my system just wont handel it anymore.
why, are you thinking about taking up alcoholism? hahah ps, rebel1 that's cool that caffeine was enough of a stim to pull you out of depression.
Well it definitely sounds like your body is sensitive to caffeine. It's a good thing you stay away from it then. I've never had the decaffeinated kind of coffee, so I'll take your word for it that the regular tastes better.
That's really interesting nimh. I know for certain that I feel much better once I'd had caffeine, and alcoholism runs like mad throughout my family. Not just because of the energizing effect of the caffeine, but because it actually helps my mood if I'm in a funk. Can lack of caffeine in a person used to having it frequently cause depression? Just curious. I've been feeling a bit down the past few days for no reason in particular. However, I've not had nearly as much caffeine as I normally do the past few days. I wonder if it's related.
Coffee just helps me keep trucking on but I dont think it affects my mood as much as gives me the energy to be myself
nope, just coffee. the article made a point of stating that. something in the coffee bean, i'm assuming. my mother has come across some new green coffee bean based tea sorta product, and it's making her awfully happy. i don't know why, but she bought it because she liked the taste of it. i guess it's some health product of some sort. coffee, like any other drug, is bound to have some positive effects..
at any rate, dave and i both have had our bouts of depression (lotsa alcoholics in both families, too). and one thing that is a gaurantee is that if we don't drink enough coffee, we get depressed. i gave up coffee for over a year, trying to get healthy. ended up on zoloft. quit the zoloft, took the coffee up again and have been fine ever since.
