Back on the hippyforums after a year... I'm planning to apply to a few colleges as a transfer international student (I'm currently in Italy). I'd like to major in International Relations or Peace and Conflict Resolution. Do you guys know some good schools that offer these majors? I've looked on collegeboard and princetonreview. I was thinking about Colgate University (but I'm a bit worried coz it looks to me that it's in the middle of nowhere...), Brandeis, Brown University, Yale, Georgetown seems to have a very interesting program (although it doesn't look my type of school...), Chapman, Hamilton etc. Any suggestions? Does anyone of you attend these colleges?
Brandeis! I'm studying international relations there. They also have a pretty good peace and coexistance minor.
Depends on what you mean by tough. Based on your list, it's one of the easier ones to get into (about the same as Colgate) but it is still pretty highly ranked so relatively hard to get into. I know it was my "reach" school and one of the top 5 schools in my graduating class. But if you're shooting for places like Yale and Brown, you really shouldn't have much of a problem. Georgetown is almost impossible to get into their IR program because it's extremely competitive, just to let you know. Not to turn you away from it, but Georgetown, Yale, and Brown are all considered some of the top college in the country (Yale and Brown are Ivy League) so even the best of applicants can be turned down from them. Have you taken the SAT? I'm pretty sure that's required even for international applicants.
Yeah I know about Yale, Brown and Georgetown. VERY VERY tough and I'm the first one to admit that probably I won't get accepted although I do very well at school. No I still haven't taken the SAT but I will on October or November. Plus, international students must submit the TOEFL test score. I wanna score 100 or better on the IBT format...that sounds very pretentious! Brandeis looks awesome. And Colgate as well...damn there are so many colleges I like, it's so hard to find the right one! If only I could visit them...! Then it would be easier picking up the college that fits me perfectly...
I can take pictures of Brandeis for you in the fall. It'll be my freshman year and since my parents live in the South, they're going to have me taking pictures of EVERYTHING since my mom is only going to drop me off. That'll sort of be like you're there. Also, look into Tufts. It's a little bit harder than Brandeis to get into but it has the oldest international relations program in the country. Plus it's right outside of Boston (which is a wonderful city) and not too far from a subway station.
i study the same thing as you in the university of wales in aberystwyth-its the very first uni that taught int. relations and prince charles studied there. come along. by the way, if you ask me you should try harvard(or other elite unis). if they dont accept you ok, but if they do you will have it a lot easier trieng to find a good job.
