What happens if you use a fake name?

I was just sitting there and wondering this. Say I was driving and I got pulled over and they ask or drivers license and insurance, what if I say nope don't got those but my name is Gyva only.... how long can they put me in jail before they have to release me? I bet my car would be gone or towed. Can someone share the pros and cons of giving the LEO's a fake name.... Driving I bet is a different story than just walking around the gathering and getting ticketed (Which I did at the Idaho gathering! $75.00 for being to close to a salmon stream and I was about 3 miles up road of the parking lot road turn off with a friend just sitting there on a dirt road that wasn't closed off or anything! Grrr...) But had I given that ranger a fake name would I have gotten off.... Any storys would be great to hear as I might just leave my drivers licenes in my car and become someone else if it puts me in a better position and could avoid what happend to me at Idaho 2001......

Giving a cop a fake name is a felony. It is not hard for them to figure it out, too. That's what all those fancy police computers are for. Welcome to the 21st century.

 

i was in tenn. about 4 yrs ago, and got into a little fender bender. i had forgotten my i.d. that day as well as my money and everything esle in my wallet. they gave me tweenty questions, and barney not happy with what i said called andy. they tricked me into there car which was my first experiance with a police car, all the back doors lock. so they took me to the police station, but i still was not arresetted. ther was sgt stadanko and he inform me about lying about my name was a felony and i would go to jail, even though i was not lying. finaly after a couple hours they got my info off of the computer. so they let me walk to the impound lot, which was a couple miles away.the impound guy was alittle concerned because i had not been arresseted. i guess he was not allowed to tow my car without permission, because he let me have my car back without any money. so all in all i lost a days wage and had gotten hassled, so my lesson is i never even get into a car without my i.d. I also met a brother who was walking in florida without an i.d. according to florida law they can detain you up to 48 hours. this country is worse than nazi germany where is your papers. Only an idiot would think they can get by without an i.d. even in the national forest, it is a national law since 911.
So you decide whether or not giving police a fake name is worth it.

they can keep you incarcerated until they identify you. if they really wanted to be pricks they could deport you.

Questions are a good thing, and if amazed that I asked this question, I would also be amazed if you believe in any kind of school system.
