My hair is pretty long now and is very thick and moderately curly. if I jsut shampoo it for a week and dont brush and dont condition it gets really knappy and really frizzy and waht not. But by taht point my mom grounds me untilll I fix it. Should I jsut stay grounded untill she gets over it or just wait until I can drive and jsut forget about her? OR my other option is to let my cousin's girlfriend backcomb and what not for me when I go to Indiana in a few weeks. What do you think my best option is?

I say wait until u go to indiana, that way your hair wont be as bad cuz ur backcombing and seperating it and stuff right? so u will have baby dreads by the time u leave there, not just messy hair. so i think ur parents will like ur hair more. if u dont wanna wait that long, maybe someone u know can help u and backcomb ur hair for u?? i hope u are able to get dreads either way!!! good luck :) peace~

my mom just refuses to beleive that they aren't nasty, gross, dirty, filthy, etc. no matter how much I tell her, let her read, explain to her, show her etc.

But I think its more of her issues of being scared of waht people will say/think

hm.. well, I personally dont get many bad comments on it or looks. I get along with people of all ages, even old people, dispite my hair.. I've gotten "it looks like hay" .. i think thats the worst.

well, and my grandma said "its ok.. you still have a pretty face, honey"....

i do get asked for drugs and stuff now though.. so i guess there is judgement.

anyway, i'd say do the backcombing and see if she changes her mind when she sees it.

lol... if I were you I'd probably give 'em a nudge when you're away from home. I let my hair dread at 17, but I was already long on my own. I barely ever saw my folks, so one day it was just "oh, you've got dreadlocks. When did that happen?" (Of course, at this point I'd just barely started growing it back out from being <1 inch long and multi-coloured for several years... I don't think there's much I coulda done to shock my folks!) :)

They'll get over it eventually. Just keep your head clean, and remind them it is where you store YOUR brain, they really have not that much to do with it now! :)

My mom is also one of those people who didn't really agree with it. She basically said if I was to get dreads the only way she would let me is if I took my gauges out of my ears. I said no since I was very attatched to my large gauges that I've had for 5 years now, and did my dreads anyway.

She likes them and keeps telling me how pretty I look.

I'd say do it, go away in a couple weeks and get them backcombed so that you have cute little baby dreads when you come home, instead of her just seeing your hair a complete mess.
