I know books and magazines aren't exactly the same thing... but I'm wondering if some of you might be able to reccomend print-magazines that have a lot of reading material in them. Currently I read People magazine and Entertainment Weekly.
I like Discover and National Geographic, but I'm not sure you would, based on the mags you listed. Why not just go to your library. They should have a periodical section with tons of mags you can look through, to find something you like. On the flipside, there's all that reading material known as books that you might want to check out.
Mother Jones Utne (I call it a shopping list) Mother Earth News NG Grist (online) Slate (online) Rolling Stone on occasion (i swap magazine with coworkers)
oh, this sounds mean but it is not meant that way: People and EW are written to a low reading scale: 6th and 7th grade respectively ( newspapers aim for 8th to 10th, depending on the publisher and if an editor bothers to analyze) Are you looking for the low-complexity fast reads, or more indepth? the idea of the grades is to maximize audience.
It depends on your angle of interest. If you are looking to broaden your horrizons.I sometimes read Nexus magazine. They also have a website, www.nexusmagazine.com It is available at Barnes & Noble in North America. I don't agree with everything that is written in the magazine, but there are certainly some thought provoking articles at times. Hard Evidence and New Dawn Magazines are of a similar ilk. I sometimes look at the website of The Weekly World News that is either the high point or low point of tabloid journalism, depending on your point of view. http://www.weeklyworldnews.com/
I'm kind of stuck in a rut of reading craft magazines... but there's Knit1 which I think is interesting because it's not all knitting patterns... they feature a celeb in every issue and have other interesting things... well as long as ur into knitting.
oh wow... I didn't even know that. Seriously. I like in-depth magazines with current events. But I also like magazines that have reviews of new products (movies, music, hi-tech gadgets).
maybe you should look for an adbusters magazine too. sometimes they're not much for reading but the whole magazine is just mindblowing at times www.adbusters.org
A new magazine that is free online is Wingspan Quarterly. It published a satirical essay about the self-promotion of my first novel which was okay, but, frankly, I liked the stuff by the other authers better. The paper copy costs. Robert Eggleton "Rarity from the Hollow"
What about the New Yorker ? I don't know if it's considered a magazine in the strictest definition of the term, but i do enjoy reading it every time i can get my hands on one .
