How many politicians are depending on the Religious Right to get them elected? Are there REALLY enough members of the voting Religious Right to secure an election win for these people? Is the number high enough to justify the outrageous behavior these politicians are exhibiting in what seems like an obvious attempt to curry the favor of the Christian extremists? I don’t think so. But I do think that the often embarrassing stances and statements made by these politicians serve a powerful purpose for them. They posit that there is a “silent majority” of citizens out there for whom “family values” and “security” and a Christian agenda is reason enough to vote for whatever moron wears their colors. It seems like these people believe that nothing can stop them. At this point, it seems relatively likely that there will be some attempts at electoral fraud; there is simply far too much damning evidence of past fraud to dismiss this likelihood. We have witnessed the Republican tactic of finding loyal idiots to “take one for the team,” then lionizing them when their sacrifice is necessary to cover up the involvement of their superiors. It has served them well many times, and there is little reason to believe that it won’t work next time. We have seen the press and the Judicial Branch take these sacrifices in payment for letting massive injustices slide. Time and again we have seen Republican administrations keep a potentially damaging event tied up under investigation for years, until its conclusion was no longer interesting to our short attention spanned citizenry; they had already gotten used to the higher temperature in their little pot of nearly boiling water. What if the right is using the “X factor” size of the Religious Rights’ voting block as the fallback position to justify their electoral fraud? “Well, Jane, I guess we underestimated the strength of the Religious Rights influence – guess the country is a Christian Nation, after all!” (Talk about using fear to control the masses!) With these tools at their disposal, I believe that the current politicos in power are attempting to lead us into a demi-theocratic fascist state, at which point, the purges will begin. Can you feel them coming, or is it just me?
The Religious Right votes in very high numbers-that's a fact. And unless a candidate agrees with their agenda, he/she won't get through the Republican primaries to be a candidate for president. How 'religious' are these candidates? Anybody with just a little bit of brains or morals can see that the Buhses are just about the most irreligious people that have evr been in the White House, but enough gullible people go to the polls and vote for them to get them in office. Some of these "Christian" networks even aired programs right before the 2004 election about "George W. Bush's faith". WHAT faith? Anybody that believes that crap deserves to live in a dictatorship.
Is it? I know that they tend to bring a higher percentage of their demographic to the polls than other groups (some of the sources I've looked at claim that they make up nearly 23% of the national population of voters - though I've read other reports that they actually make up about 13% of the conservative machine and are merely very vocal). In either case, it apears that it is only their ability to get their vote out that makes them so powerful. Might it be that in actuality they are a minority even among conservatives? My question is, does it matter? Even if liberals (which make up the actual majority of the U.S. population, if barely) were to mobilize far more efficiently in the next election, it may be for naught. We know that votes have been "lost" and we have read about the "changed votes" made by the introduction of machines with no paper trail. It may be that no matter how may liberals come to the polls, the votes recorded will still reflect "suprisingly large" number of votes cast by Christian conservatives for their candidates, whether or not that is actually the case. I think the so-called power of this demographic has been mythologized out of proportion in order to provide a shield for electoral fraud. THe problem is that, in using this shield, the elected officials must push harder and more publicly for the Christianization of the nation, opening the door for this group to start pushing their brand of morality into legislation even more.
Turn out the vote in all the numbers you wish, but realise that a mere two corporations (each owned by one of two brothers) is responsible for counting some 80% of all votes cast in the country. This means that THEY decide (and assuredly already have decided) which two pretty ponies will be offered up to the gullible public to oooh aaah, bicker and smear over with the ultimate winner of the two already decided in cahoots with the principal corporate interests of Amricacorp (the major arms contractors, captains of finance and major energy giants). Its all just a made-for-tv, high-tech advertising vehicle to deliver a promise of which there is absolutely no intention of fulfilling. So pick contestant A or B (all the rest have been duly marginalised and ignored for your viewing pleasure) and they'll tell you which of the two best suits the furtherance of the ongoing agenda. The corruption is systemic and will continue unhindered until enough people wake up and bring this system down. Good Night and Good Luck!
