I'm over next week for a few gigs and realised that we've not really covered music at this end of the forum; what are the A'dam lovers listening to?

For me and don't laugh Ravi & Anoushka Shankar Indian ''sitar'' music (very hypnotic stuff when high) Some certain Classical music (Holst, Strauss, Vivaldi, etc.) Ambient ethereal electronica (Orb, KLF chill out, DJ River, etc.) Certain funky groovy Jazz, like background music in VIP rooms. but mainly Trance (European hard-trance mixes, but everybody knows that. lol) and whats your favourite music Shiny J.?
Holy shit Koopa thats some reply. I'll keep mine short and sweet. The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, The Doors.
Right now? David Bowie Check out his version of "Port of Amsterdam" and more at the link above. Just click on "listen". Other highly (all puns intended) recommended tracks include: Bewlay Brothers Moonage Daydream Starman And Andy Warhol, of course (oh so remiss) Crazy Cosmic Jive Indeed!
I'm going to be out in Dam from next Wednesday and will be there until Friday. Is there any drum and bass/ jungle nights on either of those?
http://www.dnbforum.nl/ quest one mc is big in the dnb scene in amsterdam so search for him on the net as well!
Laugh? I've seen ravi & his grand-daughter anoushka live twice at a performing arts center near me....... Excellent performers, wonderful music, oh the rhythmic banging of the tabla drums and the sitar induced trance still flows through the corridors of my memory.
Nice one Koopa, Seeing it live is something on my ultimate to do list, I really envy you. Those tablas and sitar together is one hypnotic sound and to me having a joint goes hand in hand with that sort of music. LOL. I've a friend and she's got all sorts of bongo drums and tablas, it's brilliant stuff with a few of us banging away in unison after several joints together. I met a real typical old hippy world traveller who's done it all at her place and totally freaked me out as he knew how to play all the drums, tablas, flutes and best of all the didgeridoo playing it so the sound was constant and you can't work out where he was breathing, unbelievable stuff to witness and I felt privileged when he tried teaching me perpetual breathing but just couldn't grasp it, DOH.!
You really should try to widen your horizons Koopa man............. but isn't "etc and other stuff?" absolutely any old shite? Smart arse remarks aside, I get what you mean about not having a particular genre that you stick to; if someone asked me what kind of music I was into I couldn't be very specific, I could only tell them what I'm listening and what's in my collection. I'm seeing Tool and Franz Ferdinand next week in the Dam and James Brown on Saturday in Rotterdam so you can assume their all in my collection. The first album I ever bought is a Marvin Gaye's I Want You - it is still probably my favourite album of all time in no small part because of the sentimental attachment but also because I think it's the best album to fall in love or out of love to - I appreciate that I'm a soppy wanker. I grew up listening to The Cure, The Police, The Smiths, Prince, ABBA, Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, KRS-One, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Bob Dylan, AC/DC, Marilyn Monroe amongst others and I still listen to all of them now (not including ABBA). Currently however I'm listening to; Tool (new album, gig coming up and they're the finest of their genre imho) A Perfect Circle Peeping Tom (Mike Patton) !!! - (waiting for a new release but should be able to see them in London on July 19th) Hot Chip (latest album) Les Claypool (new album) The Cure (an acoustic alum of their greatest hits) David Byrne Talking Heads Soulwax Tom Vek All time favourites (in no particular order) Marvin Gaye Prince The Cure The Smiths Beck Bjork Mike Patton (and groups) Tom Waits De La Soul The Pharcyde David Byrne (and groups) Tool Roisin Murphy (and groups) Talib Kweli (and groups) Radiohead Blur Outkast .............. I'm boring myself......... :&
Thanks for that Koopa, much appreciated. My last day at work today, cant wait til Amsterdam next week
