there is damd little i can't litteraly live without and damd little at one time or another that i haven't. there's only one thing you can't live without in a litteral sense and that is living itself. there are two things in life, one is survival and the other is gratification. altruism, which is the basis of nobility, isn't trivial, and i'm not suggesting that it is, rather it is something we all have a personal vested intrest in, precisely for the sake of our own gratification and sometimes even survival. it's hard to survive if everyone is stealling the food out of each other mouths, that's a loose - loose situation, and so are priorities that create incentives for everyone to do so. likewise it is a considerable barrier to the real gratifications of creating and exploring when everyone is going arround beating each other over the head. there are of course many things which contribute to my gratification and or survival, which i would PREFER not to have to live without, though i must say each or at least most, i HAVE survived at one time or anyother WITHOUT. i'd rather name five things almost everyone i know takes for granted that i could very happily get along without, but perhapse that is a question for another thread. five things that provide gratification and that i would prefer not to have to do without include this computer and its internet connection and some of the things it has brought me. the existence of mechanical transportation OTHER THEN rubber tire on pavement. quite places to meditate or even sleep a refrigerator full of good things to eat. the occasional hug of honest and sincere affection. well i guess that's five. the first five to occur to me off the top of my head. =^^= .../\...
Themnie, what is transport without rubber on the pavement? I only know of boats and man, are you gonna cause a giant traffic line with a boat on Lincoln Street at 5 pm... Even a plane has rubber wheels... Waddya got? What didn't I think of? Shoe soles? Nah, it's rubber - unless your wear your Godzilla pantovs that make growl everytime you walk (not neighborly friendly too). You got some ufo?
ach, precisely what is wrong with this world. you've never heard of flanged wheels on steel rails? or trolleys. or monorails. or cable cars. or narrow gauge, really narrow narrow gauge like park trains and hernia gauge? or other more inventive and immaginative tecnologies. you've honestly never heard of any of this things? you have my sympathy and condolances for all the truely mystical wonders you have been missing through your unfortunate and appearantly innocent ignorance of them. =^^= .../\...
Thank you, now I feel like an idiot. Not the usual idiot I am but one step down - you know like when guys walked on all fours... Btw - wouldn't these mystical things you're talking about need ballbearings and all kinds of rubber atelage to make them work too? Wowsee, Themi-ooo - you got a metal wheel instead of a rubber wheel... Btw - how are ya gonna get a train to pass through the city to pick up people? Because trolleys work on rubber too... Unless you got that big pool of yours that covers the city so you can use your boat on that Lincoln Street...
you have a water fixation. freude would have something to say about that. i have an esthetic gratification bordering on orgasm for SMALL form factor guideway based systems winding their way sinuously through arboratums and japanese gardens. either or both of which your lincon street could be turned into if automobiles weren't your nation's state religeon. =^^= .../\...
I don't know about Freude... I do know about Freud though, the father of modern psychology and how he wanted to fuck his momma. He was also an involuntary philosopher. The first one to really try to analyze dreams and the metaphors they meant. Btw Mr Smartpants - you could have mentionned a Flintstone's car... They don't have rubber, and don't pollute much - just don't smell Fred's feet...
1) My friends 2) The Beach 3) My car (or bike if car is busted!) 4) Mountains 5) Oh yeah and water, food, air, shelter etc.
1) My freedom 2) My ability to think and make decisions 3) My family and friends 4) Hopefulness 5) People get actually "get you" *side note- did not include anything neccasary for survival because I did not feel it was that kind of thread
