thunderstorms are the best. They're never long enough or often enough.:)

Wow, those are great pictures. But I must confess that I'm pretty frightened of thunderstorms. Although we did have some last night and they actually lulled me to sleep, but that was because they weren't all that bad. Normally, I'm terrified of them. :&

I'm glad a few here are enjoying them. El Chivato- try using the movie setting on your camera if it has one. Mine has the capability to take 30 second clips at 640x480 resolution and saves as .AVI which is viewable in Quick Time. There's still some luck involved but it beats trying to time your reaction time together with camera lag- which can be a second with some digitals- too fast for the literal lightning speed needed for such pictures.

When I was small I was terrified of them but as I've gotten older and bolder that fear has mellowed to fascination which fits in with my general interest with weather in general. There are a couple memorable storms I remember when I was growing up in Maine- 1 in particular that delivered a lightning strike to a huge pine tree in our front yard. The same storm spawned a tornado that tore through a neighboring town where my mom was to attend a high school class reunion. The next day we took a drive to survey the results- a few houses and barns were pretty much destroyed.. a chicken barn had its roof peeled back and there was a narrow (maybe 50 feet or so across) path through some older growth forest where the trees were flattened.
