if land was free, building codes did not exist,
and no one ever demanded my attention,
THEN i would believe there was such a thing as a free country
and that i was living in one

When the Europeans conquered America I think the land was free.
Look how things turned out for the natives and non-natives.
    Freedom does just not work.

Um, that wouldn't be a free country, that would be no society. There are still plenty of islands near indonesia where you can go and live without any society if thats what ya want.

    bah!

if land was free and there were no building codes...I'd build a giant castle with a shark infested moat. and I would have tons of "eyesoars" everywhere to piss off my neighbors. and trespassers would be shot with coconuts from slingshots by my naked army of really really hot British male slaves.

yep..now that sounds like Utopia to me.

Thnemax, i think about this a lot too. Do you believe that it fundementally comes down to the faith the have in our own species?

Would we be reduced to living like animals: the strongest survive and the weak are left with nothing?

I am short and weak. Infact sometimes I can't open pop bottles or boxes that have been taped up well. Would i be thrown onto the streets by 8 year-olds. I'm being flippant but its a true and sad thought.

One time a guy in the street pretended to me that he was on the verge of a diabetic sezuire. To cut a long story short i gave him all the money i had on me and it turned out to be a lot of bull. I was only 18 and a bit naive at the time. It was a depressing and highly personal lesson, albeit on a small scale, to me on the nature of people.

freedom has never been part of the deal in the world. if anyone here was free they could not learn a thing. it is through the opression of existing in the denseness of material reality that a soul is able to grow, like a seed pushing up through the soil to reach the sunlight!

    be grateful

thats an interesting point. What do you think might happen if a child was raised from birth with no concept of material possession?

rather, the soul wouldn't stay very long.

or, maybe it would have a reason for coming into such a strange existence, if such an existence is possible....

I disagree. I'm not going to enter into an arguement about the practicalities though.

I think its just a big step up from having to share things with siblings, pets etc. You could raise a child in an environment where they didn't own a toy, a bed or a book. Everyone in their life would be expected to act similairly. Perhaps they would grow up with a less selfish, self-motivated, materialistic view of the world.

If everyone opened up their doors for a change.

I know its a philosophical question.

Bjorky is right, true freedom is only possible if there is no society. If there no society we are living like animals, and only the strong would survive. I'm a 19 year old kickboxer, I have some guns and, I'm good at hoarding so I might get along ok... I dunno how the rest of you hippies would survive. We should all be glad we're living in society and dont have to fight to stay alive.

Exactly. And then what would happen to the little guys who are teachers/cancer researchers/comedians and whatever the hell else.

I read some philosophies on society a few years back. There were a lot of good and radically different ideas.
