In the infinitesimally small world of quantum gravity...general relativity breaks down:Special relativity may break down as well, once a certain threshold of length and energy is crossed.Theoretician Giovanni Amelino-Camelia and others argue that Einsteinian special relativity(including E=mc2)will have to be modified to describe phenomena on the Planck scale.
Thanx GHOSTCRAB I couldnt have put it better myself!!!!!! but personally I prefer : A major branch of modern physics arguing for the emission of light (radiant energy) in discrete amounts or "quanta". It is now established as a corner-stone of modern physics, even though its philosophical problems (concerning reality and causality) remain contentious.
