I was hoping I could get some input from some of you folks. I was medically retired from the US Army do to wounds received in Afghanistan, I have a 7.62 x 39 mm bullet lodged against the T-1 area of my spine which cuases server pain. I receive 180 10mg Oxycontin, 120 5mg/500mg Vicodin / Hydrocodone Bitartrate & Acetaminophen tablets, 15 100mcg /hour Fentanyl (Duragesic) patches, 60 200mcg Fentanyl lollipops (Actiq oral transmucosal fentanyl citrate), 30 Zolpidem (Ambien) (for sleep) each month. To say the least I have a high amount of pain, my question is what tricks or things can I do to “enjoy” my medications better. I have been on these for 3 months now and have a refill for all of these meds in the military pharmacy I use for the next 9 months so I am not worried about addiction. Thanks for any input.
GiJoe, First, I'm glad that neither you nor your drs ar concerned about addiction. That has not always been the case with chronic pain, drs, and opiods. During my 32 years with severe chronic pain many drs have been worried about my being addicted to opiate pain killers. Even many pain specialist still believe this to be a problem. Fuck addiction. Treat the pain. Since you have the Fentanyl patches for time release pain relief, I would probably consider crushing and snorting some of the Oxycontin. But then I just happen to enjoy snorting oxycododone A LOT. I get my oxycodone in 5 mg capsules, so it's already in powder form. Until recently my insurance would not cover the Duragesic Patch for my condition (Diabetic Peripheral and Autonomic Neuropathy). I have been using Lidocaine 5%patches, but my dr and I have discussed changing to the Duragesic patch instead. I use a shitload of other meds including several antidepressants, an anticonvulsant, and a major tranquilizer, all used as pain killers instead of their normal function, When I go to a hospital ER, drs are always confused because almost none of my 20 prescription meds, except for the the regular pain killers, are used for their normal purposes. They are certain that I'm confused. I might be, but not about what I'm taking my meds for. Thank you and and all the rest of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for your brave and valiant endeavor. I scattered a 5 mg oxycodone in our rose garden in your honor this afternoon.
Hey, heres a great tip... with them Fentanyl patchs use a heating pad or hot water bottle or really hot rag, just apply to the patch it makes it work faster and stronger and the pain melts away...., i herd of some people putting 2 on then turning on the hot water in the shower and getting in,, but i've never tryed that, think it would work alittle too much...... damn i miss my fentanyl patchs KoRn Kid
Thank you OxyMoreOn for the thoughtful jester. I hope the roses don’t get addicted. I can tell you from first Hand the Fentanyl patches are really, really addictive. There is also no way of controlling when or where you will get the effects of it, I honestly lost a job with Radio Shack because I would be normal one moment then all f’ed up, also I had to stop riding my motorcycle because of it. I was at one point topping 200 mcg/hour with patches, but I recently started to go back to college and had to have it scaled back and composite with other meds i.e. oxy, vicodin, fentanyl lollypops, I also take ambient a sedative/hypnotics. As far as my physician he is a P.A. anesthesiologist that works in the Pain Management Clinic where I am treated, I luck out because he is also a US soldier that was wounded and knows what it is like to live with chronic pain.
I guess my point of this posting is what things can I do with the meds I am on I have tried snorting the oxycodone about 2 at a time and it is a quick buzz, I have heard of a way to water filter the Vicodin and oxycodone but can not find detail info on how to do this properly ( I do not want to inject it w/needles) Also can the oxycodone be smoked and if so how and what dose?
I've tried to smoke oxycodone, and it doesn't seem to work for me. What to do for Vicodin is Cold Water Extraction, find it on google, and I'm not sure for the oxycodone.. I have no idea how to filter the fillers/binders.. I wish I could, that would remove the little burn you get. Snorting oxycodone is so much fun
Chronic pain sucks, my brother, I know from personal expereince. I have also found that using the meds the way my doctor prescribed them the most effective. This way, not only is my pain controlled (like you, I have long and short acting meds, for both chronic and "breakthrough" pain) but, I don't run out, which is horrible. Nothing worse than getting near your refill date and doing that OCD pill counting thing, no thank you. Once or twice, I have just bitten a 10 mg Oxy in half, to bang the damn pain right outta my head, but I am just too afraid of running out before refill date to do this often at all. Once you take these meds for more than a few weeks a "buzz" is basically impossible, anyway. The only thing that brought back that "old feeling" (so to speak) was to take Sudafed with my meds. But my pain is migraine and Sudafed actually can constrict blood vessels and temp help the pain, I have no idea if this would help you or not. You take a hella more meds than I have to. You must be in a lot of pain. I feel for you. I gotta tell you, if you are looking for a buzz, taking more of your meds is probably going to just fuzz you out, rather than buzz you out. Maybe a little weed would help, if you aren't being tested, but, from my experience, if you are just trying to potentiate your pain releif, taking the meds as directed is best. Your doc sounds like he knows chronic pain, so you are in good hands. Heal well, my brother. I hope you have a low pain day.
as far as the running out towards the end of the month yes that is a bitch but I can always and have gone to the Emergancy Room where I am allowed to get a moraphen IV when I have extrem pain. And yes I am looking for the buzz like feeling from the meds like when I first started taking them, I told my P.A. when I called him this month for a refill that I thought the Vicodin 5/500 was not working as well as it did, so he up my script from 126 a month to a ungoddly amount of 240 pills a month (even the pharmac said that this is the most of Vicodin he has ever filled in the past 8 years he has been working in a pharmacy). As for the Vicoden I am scared to try and snort it becuase of the added things it has in it. For the Oxy. I get them in 10 mg tablets time release these have no added chemicals other then the casing, I have cruched 2 at a time and snort it and get a quick buzz that last for 10 to 15 mins a time. What does Sudafed do with taking meds? and which type of Sudafed do you use? Just so everyone can understand why I am looking to buzz off my meds is becuase with the amount of pain I am in the meds I take do not kill the pain it just makes it easyer to deal with but when I buzz it is like the pain is gone and I can enjoy life.
Jeez dude, I want your doctor Maybe see if you can get your hands on some Tramdol, I hear it increaes other opiates effects but don't know too much about it. I'd be careful messing with too much other stuff with the amount of meds you're on though. I truly hope you can come to enjoy the rest of your life, feel better soon!
I havent found sudafed tablets or spray do anything except the spray unblocks my nose and i find the tabs useless. If you take too many which i have done when ive had colds you just feel like shit to be honest. Heart also beats very fast. Tramadol i havent noticed any extra effects from taking codeine with them. Maybe but then ive been on the tramadol years now. I also fear running out of tablets towards the end of the month the withdrawal is horrendous. 100 tramadol only last me 20 days, so when i ring up they get funny. I need 120 for the month i take only 6 a day but they wont issue 120 a month i am allowed to get my scrip ten days early though. (not alot for the pain i get) I totally understand where you are coming from in that you like the buzz to take away the thoughts of pain or something like that. thats how i am. Im taking some indomethacin 50mg tonight for the first time in over a year. It gave me MASSIVE headaches, some say they get high of it but its a NSAID so i dont know how really but i suppose some do. I had a gastric bleed last time dr gave them to me and forgot to prescribe a stomach protector!! ~I dont have any i can take with the indo now but im in agony i found out ive dislocated my hip, theyve put it back but im trying to work which is diffucult had virtually all week off with only one test this week which i had to do. Otherwise i wouldnt have taken anyone out this week. Oh well lets hope the indo gives me some relief from the swelling. Something odd is that im fine with however much voltoral but i cannot tolerate this indo.
I have heard of taking sudafed with PK's will increase the effects but what I would like to know is there a certain type of sudafed, and what property causes this, or is it the alchole in sudafed that cuases this reaction. As far as the comment on the DEA fishing I am sure there are law enforcement officers that look at this web site I would just not post your home address and real name, and if they do an IP surch on my post I have the scripes for all my meds.
It maybe a pill poppers dream, but it is my nightmare. I am perscribed all these medications just to function with the amount of pain I am in day to day.
Amen to running out and being left high and dry. When I run out most times it's because some friend had pain and I would turn them on and then be short at the end of the script. To avoid the hassle of being shot down for renewing too fast I use 3 differnet places and alternate. I also have 3 Drs now who thank God don't know one another. I can get pretty much anything due to my chronic pain which will never get any better. Smoking herb and hash along with them keeps me buzzed and high pretty much 24/7. Be kool with The Cotton-most people OD from just being so high they forget how much they took till they end up passed out or dead. Drinking with any of this stuff is just dumb. Also went thru de tox on this stuff and it is yes hell on earth and very hard to get thru.
GI - my condolences for the amount of pain you have to deal with daily. I am prescribed a supply of NSAIDs (anti-inflammatories) and Oxycodone each month to deal with my early onset CF associated arthritis, which is hell for me, but must be NOTHING compared with what you go through. I completely understand the idea of needing that buzz. The fact is, for me, something needs to justify the fact that I am essentially an addict to narcotics, not out of choice, but out of necessity. I need to at least feel that I am taking advantage of my situation somehow and enjoy the pain relief I get from my meds. I can't help you much, but I do know that cold water extraction works well with oxycodone to get the acetaminaphen out. just heat up some water (not to boiling) and drop in the pills, then stick the container in the fridge and let it cool. the acetaminaphen isn't soluable in cold water, and you can then strain it out leaving you with a solution of water and oxycodone. like you said, no reason to go as far as shooting it, but i find drinking it is the best idea. i've tried letting the water evaporate and smoking the oxy crystals leftover, but this seems to me to be inefficient, and the smoke and tar and taste was so awful that it made the high that i got (i did get high) almost worthless. so if you want to take some high dosages with those pills but want to avoid the liver destroying addatives, cold water extraction is certainly useful.
