I see why these threads turn into arguing now. Why start something? Just leave me alone with my opinion.

Jesus fucking christ, someone's hostile. No, I haven't heard half of these "fucking bands"...'cause I don't like emo. I know what I like, and emo bands don't fall into that category. The most I've heard that you've listed is Thursday and I thought it was pretty shitty. I couldn't sit down and listen to that and enjoy it. But hey, everyone has different tastes. There's no use arguing about it, really. You see something in emo that I obviously don't see. And perhaps if you listened to the music I listen to, you wouldn't be able to appreciate it as I do.

    Oh...and MTV sucks ass.

one quick note; listing off a bunch of mediocre bands does not prove a point about the quality of a certain genre.

i have heard a number of those bands, one of my friends listens to a lot of emo, and the music wasn't GOOD.

complexity of a guitar part doesn't make a song good, if it was than we would all obviously be listening to yngwie malmsteen instead of hailing to the almighty riffing and composition skills of jimmy page.

    you want to compare tabs??

try bron-y-aur stomp or babe i'm gonna leave you.

    Amen, Brother.

I don't care much for the "my life sucks so god damn much boo hoo"-iddyness of Emo music, i'd rather listen to mind numbing/happy...?...music

    o_O
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

none of the bands posted in that long list will ever be as Innovative or ispirational as The grateful Dead Led-Zeppelin Pink Floyd or the Beatles....seriously i doubt many if any of them will be doing concerts 30 years after the golden age of their music

The most "emo" thing i will listen to is Pink Floyd's The Final Cut...and i feel like a blasphiemer for even refering to it as a bit of emo...but meh

Maybe there are good emo bands out there, but I sure haven't heard them. All that I've heard strikes me as nauseating whine-rock. Now I don't like rap much either, but I've heard rap that I would call quality even though it doesn't suit my tastes. Emo has yet to even cross that threshold with me.

I think LuciferSam said it best. I can tell you when something is quality, and even though I'm not a fan of rap, there is some rap that I wouldn't call bad. I haven't heard even one emo song that I would want to listen to the whole way through. I don't need a bunch of whiny guys singing to me about how they're so heartbroken 'cause their gf cheated on them or whatever the fuck they sing about...

Gravy_Train_Gilmore..."complexity of a guitar part doesn't make a song good, if it was than we would all obviously be listening to yngwie malmsteen instead of hailing to the almighty riffing and composition skills of jimmy page."

Right on with what you said! Oh god...Yngwie Malmsteen...*smacks head*...haha.

I didn't read all the lists so I don't know if they are on it, but try out My Hotel Year.

i enjoy some emo music; dashboard, something corporate, taking back sunday, moneen, thursday,... a few more.... but one thing i have never really been able to totally figure out is why it is called EMO. are they referring to it as EMOtional music? if definately so, EMO could not be classifed as a genre because isn't every genre or type of music emotional? doesn't all music involve or convey some type of emotion? just some thoughts, that many others probably have as well.:)

I think they called themselves that because they thought of themselves as being ... like, really emotive, and emo kids cry and stuff at the concerts, and to them that's more emotional than other music. I think it's also to set them apart from the other offshoots of punk, like hardcore.

Ok I'm glad to see that the whole 'emo sucks' thing is over. Let's see what the first post was about... it was a question if people knew any good emobands. Now there are only two posts that could be considered as a reaction to this question. Apparently this guy's into emo music and wants to know some more bands. I see hippy people as loving and respecting people, so I don't really get all the shite about 'no there aren't any good emo bands' (with some added 'fucks' and 'shits' and 'sucks'), because it 's not exactly helping anybody is it? It's just spreading hate.

I love emo, just as I love jimi hendrix, bob marley, the beatles, folkmusic, jazz, classical music, 60s rock, 70s rock, 80s rock, 90s rock...

My favourite bands are The Get Up Kids and Dashboard Confessional... i see that you all think they are sell-outs, but what's wrong with trying to make money? Apart from that I'm from Holland, where it's really hard to find any music that is not house or hiphop (i like some house, i like some hiphop, but often not the popular songs....), so here DC and the Kids are not sell-outs. I would like to thank Mui for his list, which I will certainly check out.

P.S. if someone likes to make emotional music, so intensely that it makes him/her cry, just leave it. Don't call it whineing, because it's really harsh...
