It was the single most phenomenal night of my entire life and I will remember it forever. Even though I had to stand for two and a half hours to reserve my seat in front row, it was worth it. Blue Oyster Cult played first, and they were amazing (especially the bassist) and the crowd reaction was explosive. By the time the began "Godzilla" and "Don't Fear the Reaper" I was delirious. They were brilliant, but for me Styx was the highlight of the night. I never stopped screaming the entire time they played. I was so close to them it was unreal. And four out of five members acknowledged my existence! I told Tommy Shaw I loved him and he winked and said "I know" and I seriously started hyperventilating and for like a minute I couldn't even breathe. Honestly. Then I was cheering for the other guitarist and he looked me straight in the eye and repeated what I did! And the bassist threw me one of his guitar picks! My sister got Lawrence Gowan's water bottle! They did "I Am the Walrus" and sounded just like John! I sang along the whole time. "Come Sail Away" was the most magical part. The entire audience was singing along. I'm in a picture Lawrence took! He climbed on top of the amp and we were basically face to face! I made a peace sign for the camera. My sister threw her hat on stage and he put it on!!! Then he asked her if she wanted it back and she let him keep it. Then an explosion of confetti burst from the stage. They came out for three encores, both bands. We just chanted "Styx!" or "BOC!". Wow. Last night was the happiest night of my life. I will never forget this.

Gah. If Styx was the highlight of my life, I'd probably shoot myself in the head.

Ha ha ha Spooner. Thank you.

    :D

WC- I suppose this makes up for missing REO Speedwagon when your brother broke his arm?

Well, Woodstock Child, you're very passionate! :)
I'm not a big fan of Blue Oyster or Styx but whatever,
The best rock show I went was the one I played in with my band!

By the way, Spooner, you don't have to shoot you for that... but if you do I think WoodstockChild won't cry.

Lay off, people. She's in a low-priority touring area. Sometimes you see what you get. And Dennis DeYoung always ran a tight show (kid in the late 70s-early 80s)

WC, I waited in line at Red Rocks for three hours to get in the GATE sunday: Rat Dog, SCI and Taj Mahal Trio.

Taj was amazing. I'd waited 12 years to see him, and I was quite impressed with his stage presence and crowd patter. He was genuinely complimentary to the weird jam band crowd ("One thing I can say about jamband fans is y'all come to DANCE").
I'd go see him again and I'm not a huge blues fan at all.

Even though I don't like Styx, and I only like a few songs by Blue Oyster Cult, I never knock other people's music choices. Lucky you!!! At least you got to see you favorite band and I sounds like you really enjoyed yourself. I wish the surviving members of Zeppelin would get together and tour. I know that would never happen.

Where are these Arab terrorists when we need them? A human bomb should have ran on stage and blew up both Styx and The Blue Oyster Cult. Jesus, they suck!

Any radio station that still plays them, should have their broadcasting tower dynamited.

All memory of these lame noise bands should be relegated to the Akashic Record.

BTW, spooner, I recognize the poet you quote-- Robert Service, and I think (without checking) that it's from "The Burial of Sam McGee".

Like it matters, few would be able afford tickets. They would sell for like 250 starting.
