So okay, yeah I'm having brown phlegm today.... and I'm wondering if its because I had a severe nose bleed yesterday. Is that possible??? I have a terrible habit of picking my nose :& and it just started pouring blood yesterday, and now I'm coughing up brown phlegm. I was really worried and called the doctor, but then I remembered what happened with my nose yesterday. And theres still a lot of brownish red snot coming out of my nose when I wipe it...so....
Did you tilt your head back at all during the nose bleed? It's possible some of the blood could have gotten into your lungs - hence why people are now encouraged to tilt head forward during a nose bleed. If it's still happening tomorrow, or it gets worse or you experiance any other worrying symptoms (bad cough, fever, etc) then i'd see a doc.
Yeah I don't remember if I tilted my head back, but I think it bled again in my sleep last night, so thats possible. I'm not getting anymore brown phlegm now as the day progressed so I think it was just from the blood in my nose draiing back into my throat... but yeah if its still going on tomorrow or something, I'll call the doc.
Nose bleeds are common in your condition. The blood can also pool at the back of the throat and turn brown. I'd mention it to the doc. If you have ANY more bleeding, call the doctor or clinic immediately, though.
