I'd love to hear what all of you think/feel, I just listened to The Beach Boys long lost album, "Smile" which should have been released in 1967 (Before The Beatles Sgt. Pepper album). If your only introduction to The Beach Boys is their "classic" surf pop style, be prepared to be surprissed! This is truely a psychedelic album. It was recently released by Brian Wilson, I believe last year. This album is out there and will demonstrate what a musical genius Brian Wilson was, truely ahead of his time as a songwriter, musician and human. Give it a lsten (If you haven't already .
I heard parts of it, while I was at this record shop downtown....... its not bad..... it reminds me of pet sounds, but trippier.
I'd like to find the original "lost" Smile recordings from '66 that have been reconstructed on places on the internet. They're supposed to be excellent, but they must be rather hard to find, 'cause I'm certainly not having any luck.
The 'Pet Sounds' outtakes are all quirky, jingle-jangle xylophone & hammond organ echo that may be the most beautiful & atmospheric background aural sound of the 1960s?. Very few people have heard them because the C.D. box set is too expensive.I borrowed them from a friend. 'Smile' was meant to be mind-blowing but Brian Wilson abandoned the project & wrote watered-down rubbish called: 'Smiley-Smile' for 'The Beach Boys'.
