Hippies were about counter culture. How can you have the same ideas as the 60's hippies when the culture then is different to the culture of today? Counter todays culture you can't do that though if you don't know what todays culture is. What if the culture of today is counter to that of the 60's?
Who cares? If people like to be called "hippies" let them. *shrugs* Let whoever be whatever they want to be.
hehe i wasnt dissin any one who believes to be a hippy or not, i believe im not a hippy but every one calls me one... i was simply making a point. ..but on a more serious note, i reckon there needs to be another counter culture movement, because todays society is too stagnant, that or we need another war.
ok lets just make sure this doesnt turn into another topic about the war in Iraq or another bush flaming thread.... Yeah true, but there are wars going on all over the world all the time. It's unfair to say "we are in a war" just because one particular war got alot more media coverage than any other. When i say we need a war, i meen one that affects the every day lives of every one, not just in america, or britain, but the 'west'. Because at the moment, young men and women have no real goals to strive for, we don't have a common enemy, the majority of young people living at home couldnt give a toss about 'the' war. Us kids are just running about, taking drugs, drinking, and ruining our lives, living in our computer generated worlds, the generaion before us has given us such an easy life, where all of our needs are taken care of us, soon enough we will be having some one paid to wipe our ass. If we were given a war, it would give a relity SHOCK to every one who's heads arent in reality and wake us up, and give us a cause to fight for.
Yes, we need a huge war just so we can have something to protest to say we're hippies. We're already in a pointless war and there's already enough innocent people dying.
Okay. You live in the UK. The American's are in the middle of a war. The war in Iraq. Despite what you say.
Those of us striving to get the word out and tyring to participate in polotics with out becoming suits are the counterculture. was there hippie culture in the uk?
no offense but the fact that you said we need to have a war is possibly the stupidest thing i ever heard, you tried to rationalize that statement by saying kids dont care about anything and just do drugs but sending them over to the battlefields isnt going to help their mental state.
As long as you can Turn On, Tune In, and Drop Out, that will be a "counter culture" and hippie is as fine a word as anything for it.

War is ridiciolous and always will be. Tanelorn is right though, if you want to be "counter-culture", you can't be a hippie. You have to be different. You can't just think outside of the box, you have to think outside of the bubble, or the pink elephant or inside of the purple polka-dot. And you have to SHOCK people, you have to scare them into thinking their precious morals and values are being lost in the world of today. D'ya know what I mean?
Or we can be true to ourselves and be who we are destined to be. If I fall under the hippie category, poo on whoever labels me. I don't care.
