Salam Aliekum brothers and sisters I have recently been contemplating the role of the scholars in Islam and to what extent they control the muslims in general and to what extent they are controlled by middle eastern governments. I believe that the majority of the scholars reside in Suadi Arabia and are given a comfortable salary by the government. But, as subjects to a Monarchy, Islamic law is not the law of the land, and I am beginning to question what amount of free speach the scholars have. If the scholars issued a fatwa that was not in compliance with the suadi government or any other government in the mideast, they would be exiled from the country if not killed. Is it safe to sat that the scholars are kept in check by these governments and not free to issue fatwas that would constitute or protect islamic law? thoughts?
Wa Aliekum Assalam Wa Rahmatu Allahi Wa Barakatu dear brother =) !!!or maybe house arrest- or only not allowed to issue Fatwas which isn't compliance with them publically,.... I really don't know, maybe they have the right to give some Fatwas which isn't compliance with them but it won't be applied, maybe they have other fatwas and that fatwas aren't right, so they want them to stop giving wrong fatwas....(= *Peace and love* =)Yours Sincerely,Cat Stevens
wa aleykumu salam, acually the famous qari and sheikh hudaifa (former imam of the mosque in medina) is no longer allowed to hold any friday sermons in the mosque (im not sure the ban is still on) because of a sermon he gave that the saudi goverment didnt like. They control every sermon before he gives it, but he had somehow sneakin in a piece of paper and started giving a whole different khutba, interesting.
Asalam Alaikum Wa Rahmatu Allahi Wa Barakatu cabdirazzaq What was it about & how did you know about that:newspapers, Magazine, forums or did you hear that (rumors) ....(= *Peace and love* =)Yours Sincerely,Cat Stevens
