i was wondering if anyone knew of any artists who sing about swamps and bayous. (my dad and i were talking about ccr the other night and i want to make him a cd or two full of swamp/bayou music)i have been trying put together a short list of swamp songs, but don't really know who to look at as far as artists i've never heard of before. or, does this even have it's own genre? i've heard of "swamp pop" but don't really know what it is... if anyone could clue me in on that too, that'd be great if anyone has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it! so far i have: born on a bayou -ccr green river -ccr swamp witch -jim stafford marie leveau -bobby bare legend of wooly swamp -charlie daniels band swamp music -lynyrd skynyrd the first three, imo, are the best, but i'm really just looking for ANYTHING about swamps, bayous and related subjects. thanks!
well . . . . Whenever I listen to Miles davis's BITCHES BREW it makes me think of psychedelic swamps. I don't know about you . . . (((((WOW))))))
hey thanks! you know, i'm not the biggest miles davis fan, but that song was pretty sweet. lol, although, i can't say i saw the same imagery as you, stalk neat song nevertheless! thanks
Midnight Lighting- Hendrix I heard this really swamped out version of season of the witch on blued brothers 2000 you should check that out walk on the water- ccr
"FIRE ON THE BAYOU"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from the METERS, it has fuckin good groove in it. the rythm section ot the band is well know among professionnals musicisans to have top quality.....
I'm kinda guessing but i think swamp-pop is the stuff recorded by bands like The Rednecks (big hit with a tune called Cotton Eyed Joe) and The Grid (who mixed banjo and wotnot with vague techno/dance beats) They were a kinda music hit in europe in the nineties.... might be worth checking out if yer can aquire them
for me, alot of delta blues is great swamp music. I also dig the swampy sounds of cajun music - and it goes so well with creole food!
