I fucking hate this airline like you would not believe. I'm in tears right now. I took one of their flights back from Denver from the Rainbow Gathering. Well someone went into my bag and took my flute. I called them asking where my flute was and they said that it was my fault for putting it in with my checked bag. Well, the last time I checked going into someone's bag and taking something was stealing;therefore, I could not be at fault! I had my flute for 11 years. I learned how to play the flute on it back when I was 10 years old. I have no clue as to what else I can do. I think I'm screwed. I'm pissed to the point where I may call them back and get someone fired. The bitch who talked to me deserves to get fucking fired. You do not do costumer service like that! Anyone know what I could do? Do I have any options?

I hate to say this, but I would consider it gone. You probably should have said something to customer service before you left Denver. Lodge a complaint, but don't expect anything to happen. :(

I am really sorry about this, it's unfair of them to take that from you.

Do you have the name of the person that took it in the first place? Or even the person that handled sending your luggage back?

I would make sure you reported them by name. That might help the situation.

Hmmm, they could've been nicer 'bout it. Airlines generally aren't responsible for carry-on items, but checked baggage is another matter.

Did you try talkin' to a different JetBlue representative?

I know it wont replace that flute but normally all baggage is insured for $500 minimum. Its still BS and your right but happens. Look at Bam Margera and his Diablo, they tore his clutch up trying to make an all wheel drive car rip all 4 tires. This was an airline worker loading the car that did this. To add insult there is a video from news crews showing the airline workers rippin around the airfield and also smoke comming out from the loaded area of the plane right after they loaded his car.

Yes its BS what airlines get away with.

All in the name of "homeland security". That's too much power.

wow, I once had my luggage finish the "jaw flight" I was on. I got off in the US, my luggage went to NZ.
We got about $100 US for personal items and teh crap came back two days later.

Now, I have frinds who travel with instruments all the time, and locks are the way to prevent this. big locks.
Call Jet Blue, tell them you demand the value of the missing flute. keep getting FULL names and keep talking up the ladder until you get satisfaction.

so i called AGAIN. I spoke to the supervisor of the customer service department and took down his name. He was a hell of a lot nicer to me. He told me that he is filling a report and that he will call me back in 24-48 hours. I will call him tomorrow to check up on the status. If I get nothing back after this i will call EVERYONE that fedupamerican suggested. I will make a bad scene for them if I do not get my flute or at least money to buy a new one. Thats for all your suggestions! Stalk, I have no clue how one can steal an instrument, but it happens every day. Now i'm going to feel useless at the weekly drum circle in my neck of the woods. We will have no flute player. :( I guess I can bring my recorder and make funky beats with that.

Dear Miss Bumble, Take them to small claims court and sue them for the max (which may be $5.000, don't know for the state of Colorado or where you live) This might teach them a lesson, but you should not have packed it in a bag that would go thru the mechanical/human sorting. You might not get it back. But if you sue for the loss of the flute and pain and suffering you might just get a new flute out of it. Won't make up for the loss of something so dear, but if you relinquish control people will always take advantage of you. Good Luck!!

I know this does nothing to help you, but my Grandma always taught me to have documented proof, so...

whenever I fly anywhere, I print off a list of everything that is in my bag, with an approximate dollar value beside it. I put one in my bag on top of everything, and I keep one copy with me in my carryon with my passport and all that. I list everything from cheap cotton underwear to diamond earings. And it does help!

Once when flying in SE Asia, my bag was destroyed... ripped open, stuff hanging out of it. But, it was clearly labeled both on the bag and on the "list" inside whose bag it was (name, address, home and hotel phone number). When they called me to come into the office and get my bag, we were able to see within minutes what was missing and know how much it was worth.

I really do hope you get your Flute, or money for the flute! Its crap that they think they can just ignore your complaint!

Zeppelinkid yeah, but only when you really need to.

Bumble I hope they find it for you or at least compensate you. You are doing the right thing by complaining. If you'd kept quiet they would have just written you off.

ok it's complicated. Technically it's on the actual bag, but I had a plastic bag around the entire bag so that things didn't fall off. The plastic bag was not torn or anything, so someone had to untie it to get to it. I had my sleeping bag, coat, hiking boats, and flute attached to my bag. I added the extra bag to prevent anything from falling off, even though everything was securely on there by bungees and rope.

    I beg to differ.
No doubt they will give her some song and dance that it was a threat to airline security.

Have you seen all they have confiscated in the name of homeland security?
