i dislike severely when these band are mentioned together actually it only bothers me the Nirvana is compared to the doors. i personally feel that nirvana is the most overrated band EVER! I'm sorry but i think that if Kurt Cobain had never died they would have faded to obscurity. like so many others. and just because his old lady blew his head off with a shotgun does not make him worthy of the adoration he gets. don't get me wrong i do like the music of Nirvana i just feel they are massively over rated
I love both bands but I like The Doors more. Jim Morrison is also my favorite poet. The Doors were and are unique and very talented Musicians. In addition,Jim Morrison had a true gift with words and such a beautiful voice. He also had the best scream in my opinion. Along with some other fine attributes. he he. Peace, Michelle
Did Nirvana become famous only after Cobain's death? Did the grunge revolution only begin after his death? No. Their album "Nevermind" was what smashed hair-metal off the face of the planet and kickstarted the cultural revolution which was grunge music. This in turn had a gigantic impact on alternative rock and various other styles which came into being in the 90s. Also, lyrically, I'd say Cobain was as much a poet as Morrison. They just had different styles. You can't compare, for example TS Eliot and William Blake as to who is the "better" poet, or Magritte and Pollock as to who is the "better" painter. The only thing you can do is state your opinion, based on personla preferences. Yeah, many people think that the Doors, The Beatles and Nirvana are overrated. But how many other bands have had such massive impacts on music and culture? The fact of the matter is, whether you like their respective styles of music or not, you have to acknowledge that each of them were revolutionary in their own right. As for the argument that Nirvana would have faded into obscurity... Er, yeah, with Nevermind already considered the defining record of the 90s PRIOR to his death, I doubt it. If you want to try to use that line of thought, why not apply it the doors (jim morrison's death) or the beatles too (lennon's death)?
Kurt Cobain is one of the greatest pop writers of the late 80s/early 90s, if not THE greatest of that time period. Can't say the same for Jim Morrison.... All the bands you mentioned are very overrated.... many people seem to like them just because they did drugs. But this doesn't mean that they aren't great bands (excluding The Doors, which aren't anywhere near "great")
Yes, all three bands are overrated, but I believe the most so being the Beatles. I respect them just as much as the next person, but in all honesty, they really aren't that good in my mind. Their songs are all incredably boring and all sound the same. Plus I just think that sooooooo many other bands through the years have had so much more talent than them. Everyone I ever meet seems to just be obsessed with the Beatles, basically hailing them as gods or something, and I just don't think they were that good at all.
You think "Blue Jay Way" sounds the exact same as "Love Me Do?" What the heck is stuffed in your ears? While they often do sound rather boring when compared to many other bands and artists, you have to look at what they did and when. If The Beatles hadn't pushed psychedelic music onto the pop charts, popular music would have been pretty boring for at least two or three more years (I think so, anyway), and many inventive and completely original groups such as The Velvet Underground may never have attempted to do what they did if it weren't for Revolver and "Norwegian Wood." Also, they were there to challenge The Rolling Stones into creating more original music, which in turn inspired bands like The Stooges and MC5. In short, I believe The Beatles have inspired pretty much every single rock 'n' roll band that has written at least one pop song.... and then there are the singer-songwriter types, and they also may have written and recorded the first heavy metal song (Helter Skelter). They seem pretty overrated, until you really get into the history of popular music.....
Oh no, I agree with you here. As I said, I do RESPECT them for what they did for music. But I do not think their music is really worth as much attention as they get. Its okay, but not great. But yes, I agree that they did do a lot for music in general. I just don't care for theirs.
I agree that alot of bands are over rated. But the Beatles?? Biggest band of all time. The Doors?? True legends with a huge cult following. Nirvana?? Music of a generation. Thats just my opinion.
politics are awesome, 'Boys don't cry' is one of the finest albums ever made. Have got a couple of Cure vids around somewhere n I might just watch one now. I think the doors and Nirvana both awesome bands , read bio's on Cobain and morrison, both intense lives and for me thats part of the fascination.
Nina Hagen which I adore, expressed her delusion and pity for Kurt's suicide. The difference among some artists and bands and Kurt is that Kurt had (and expressed himself) a big self esteem problem. Where Morrison was a sort of wise man And Beatles too. And even Jimi Hendrix. My opinion is that Kurt felt he had passed a sign and he didn't feel he could get back and become a nomal and mature artist and a father anymore. He felt unable to grow. This is very sad. He preferred to die instead of changing and considering that life has a positive side and we can change. Nina who is the mother of punk neverthless is a very wise woman and a huge artist. For the rest, any comparison among artists is arbitrary. I think every artist of success is overrated and every unknown artist is underrated.
