Well, I thought I'd start a Bellydance typa thread! Anyone else bellydance? My favorite music to dance to is live music. I love to hear the pounding of the drum the Oud and guitar. Live music has so much energy to it, you can't help but dance. I love my zils(finger cymbals) and I can play them pretty well! I've danced in troupes where alot of the time we do choreography to taped music. That fun too, we've danced to Dead Can Dance, Omar Faruk Tekbilek and many other folks we can't get to play for us live> Belly dance I must say has changed my outlook on life. Its given me something sacred and that is something I've had all my life!
i love belly dancing. ive been taking classes since i was 10. im half arabic so its a huge part of my culture. i have a pic from my first belly dancing recital in my gallery. im all for a belly dancing thread.
I really need to try it. It looks so graceful, cool and fun. I don't really know how to get started though.
then you'd love Harem- Darbuka solo its almost trance. Actually all Harem songs are appropriate for belly dancing. I'd given the band's CD to my swedish host family as a gift, they were horrified lol
like from a video? i went to a one hour bellydancing workshop last summer but i cant remember any of it now:&
I was in belly dancing for a few months. It was the most awsome experience! I felt beautiful, and I actually showed my belly (for someone who has had 2 kids that's a big feat lol). Hopefully someday I can scraped up enough money to take more lessons Jamie
i'm wayyyyy into bellydancing. i'm part of a troupe (semi-professional, though we don't get paid for a lot of gigs), and in a trio called gypsy love. there's really nothing like oriental dance, it's so easy to get lost in the moment, especially with live musicians. my gallery has pictures from some of the shows i've been in if anyone's curious. keep shakin it girls!
oooh what dead can dance songs have you danced to? i was looking to choreograph a solo to one of their pieces... i thought maybe yulunga but i'd like to know what one you guys used
Cantara was our best. A couple girls from my troupe did the 4 of Swords to The Ubiqutous Mr. Lovegrove Yulunga would be awesome. Have you heard the Lotus Eaters cd? Its a Dead can Dance tribute. I'm thinking of buying it!
ooh cantara is a beauty, i bet that was awesome! i think i'm going to try out yulunga, i have some ideas for it, i need to get my arse in gear before school starts because there's some events they want me to dance at and i'd like to have something kickass. maybe i'll just do marco polo by loreena mckennit. it's hard to choose something highschool kids would like that isn't terribly overplayed. i'll have to take a look around for that cd, i haven't heard of it but i'm intrigued...
I wanna start belly dancing lessons next year, when I'm also starting drums and (hopefully if I can get my mum to pay) horse riding. I've always liked belly dancing's always so cool!
heres a pic of my old troupe, http://louvre.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/c43/b44/c43b441e-ba5f-415e-b92c-b270eb1cceb3 We do a kinda ethnic tribal melange'
i belly dance and absolutley love it!! its amazing how powerful and beautiful it makes me feel. and i usually practice at home listening to dead can dance, although only some of their stuff works with dancing. ive only got one CD with some songs...been meaning to check out some more of their stuff.
