I am a Canadian and as such can only offer an outsiders opinion... Like many Americans (I assume), I have not travelled to our neighbouring country all that often... I think alot of the world (at least Canadians that I know) resent your elected president... It reflects on your country as a whole.. We don't hate him because of the war in Iraq, we understand your militarily driven economy and social structure. I think we resent George W Bush because you people voted for him again. When one of our Prime Ministers lies about two hundred million that was mispent in an effort to calm the french in quebec, we throw him out on his ear. When your president lies about weapons of mass destruction and sends your boys to fight and racks up the greatest deficit in the world, more people vote for him... The world doesn't hate George W Bush. We resent you, the people. The people are who elected him for a second term... Unlike the country's you invade at will, you have one of the most sofisticated electoral processes in the world. How does a country elect a three trillion dollar liar. How a nation can let countless people live in absolute poverty (in their own country) without basic health care and still afford to kill other innocent people is unbelievable. Worry about your own country before you spread your values around the world. Maybe if your values were straight, people wouldn't be so angry to have them imposed on them. Don't blame the president, blame yourselves. Northern Canadian
that's the beauty of the media. with the right people and enough cash, anybody can get the poor little saps who live off of it to believe just what they want them to believe. but youre right, at fault is the majourity of the population who voted for him. and before you can really blame him for taking the u.s. into iraq, you have to place that blame on the representatives and senators who gave him full authority to go to war. with such an unthinking population of sheeple, theres not much left to do but hop along for the ride. and by that i mean try to get as inside the system as possible, even if you dont agree with all or most of it.
Do you remember John Kerry, by any chance? There are times I wonder how the hell Bush won in '04, but when I think back 'bout Kerry it doesn't seem quite as amazing. Also, do remember that in a country of 221 million of voting age, only 62 million actually voted for Bush. I've visited Canada a few times, and while I think it's a great country, many of the things I dislike 'bout America can be found up there, too. I saw plenty of flag-waving and even some militaristic pageantry (hearing a military band render "God Save the Queen" some 75 miles (excuse me, 120 km - another strike against ya) from the US border was somewhat disturbing, which brings me to the next thing...). Then there's the monarchism on top of everything else...
The election was fixed and that has been repeated ad infinitum to deaf ears across the nation. The fact is our electoral process has long been nothing more than a rigged charade and all the more so within the past 6 years with the introduction of electronic voting machines produced by the same two companies who hold the illegitimate franchise on the tabulation of 80% of the votes cast nationwide. Insofar as both companies are owned by two brothers, both of which are diehard neo-con republicans, the flagrancy of the fraud of US elections is beyond to transparent to all who dare to turn off the made for tv PR glitz and face reality. Our nation was hijacked by mass murdering organised criminals and radical ideologues through a systemic, non-bloody coup d'etat. Simple as.
And if this is true, there isn't a single thing that you can do about it. Or for that matter anybody. Sucks eh
Sucks most for you and your generation my naive young fellow. Buying into the "my team won" mentality in which US electoral politics is sold to the gullible public will only make your awakening all the ruder in the next decade as you find your opportunities long mortgaged into non-existence by those you seem to support as "winners". Enjoy the illusion whilst you still have mommy and daddy to cling to for support, cause the brick wall is approaching faster than you think.
Doesn't really matter who wins anymore, unless I am dishonourably discharged I should always be on the winning side.
Well, being Canadian, I have only heard this song in parades so I'm not too sure where you visited... an army base perhaps... If you knew anything about the way Canada works, the Queen really has no say in what happens. Did I say that there was anything wrong in Patriotism? I LOVE Canada! I love that we have the balls to toss corrupt officials out of office...
Hey N. canadian i'm rigtht here with you and being a litle rsentful of the american poublic and that includes myself
pssstt... your hubris is showing! While the 04 US election was disheartening, I do not think it fair for you to publicly lambaste the US citizens found on this forum. Why? Look where you are at... a freaking HIPPIE forum. Do you think many people on here actually voted for Bush? No! Did you vote for Harper? If you are a liberal (note the small "L" fellow Canadians) then chances are, no. If you did... well.. rather a case of the pot calling the kettle black, eh? I am sure there will be egg on the face of those who did, and it will be just as tasty as the egg now found on the people who voted for Bush in '04.
I didn't vote for him, not that it matters. My one vote counts and that's why I cast it. Harper has never done anything, however, to make me think otherwise about voting for him. If he, let's say, sent us into war against some previously defeated nation on a false premise, I assure you his stay in power would not be long...
But it's okay for him to vocally support such a war as long as it was other countries fighting it (as Harper did)?
yeah, you are preaching to the choir here. There are many americans who are very vocal about their displeasure with Bush. You have found one of those places here. So, Canadians really think that all US citizens are happy with the results of the election? They must not see the news. "I love that we have the balls to toss corrupt officials out of office..." You are not listening. If we dont have the choice and power as a people to elect who we want, how can we have the power to impeach? You should go find a right wing conservative forum so you can educate them.
What's even sadder is that Kerry was never a really viable canidate, how did he end up as one, and when he was actually ahead why did he say what he did about Cheney's daughter, that fixed the whole election right there. It just proved to me that both parties are in bed with the same folks and the outcome is already fixed most of the time before the little man even casts his vote.
