I wrote this a few months ago, but wasn't sure whether I actualy liked it. This is based on an true story, where my dad found abandoned kittens and took them to a no-kill animal shelter. Samaritan Conscience stops the car by the dilapidated house, pockmarked by indifference. Father steps out of the car, crosses the back, no patients here it seems. Or- Who could leave them? Huddled in a dingy crate like so many newcomers. Did they mention these tired and poor souls? Meowing with confusion. Father’s pragmatic hands take them into the car. At their own immigrant station, they will be processed, trading crates for homes. There will be no reward for father since conscience has already driven him home.
Not bad man. I liked the way you transitioned to finding the kittens with "or-" which to me simulates quite well that moment when you see something unexpected and kind of pause to take it in.
