i received this plant as a gift a few days ago. i have no idea what it is. the pink flower is pointy and sharp, especially toward the center. the leaves are thick, with a white filmy-looking covering on parts. you can see it's leaning one way in the pot. i think it might just be topheavy and need to be repotted. again, i'm not sure. if anyone knows what this is, PLEASE help me out. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v629/melonhead420/plant%20ID/?sc=1&multi=8&addtype=local&media=image i have a really hard time keeping plants, as my apt gets no direct sunlight. any care info or advice on this plant would be greatly appreciated! if it needs sun, i'd like give it away before i kill it. thanks! peace. it's a bromeliad and it will die soon. seriously. They die after they bloom, but usually will grow one or two babies in the pot first. Keep water in the cup formed by the leaves, and don't worry about the soil so much, the roots are just to anchor the plant to the tree it would normally be growing on. When the mother plant dies, separate and repot the babies. They will survive in very low light no problem.
BOOO! thanks, though. and there IS a baby plant there. at least now i'll know what to do when it dies. do you know how long a baby plant will last? will it bloom and produce more babies? thanks again, very helpful. peace.
