I recently had the opportunity to personally meet an Englishman that I've corresponded with for a few years over the internet as he rode a motorcycle around the world and who is an author of some repute. During our conversation we got on to the subject of politics (it was over a glass of Tuskers, so it was OK). He made an observation about people and political beliefs, specifically Americans and their approach to politics. He said that most people in America (and his own country) have only superficial understanding of anything close to a political belief. They'll make statements without any depth to their knowledge of, or even understanding of facts to support what they say or write. I see his point.
It's generally because we assume things are fairly obvious to others, even when they aren't. Actually Bush's family is originally from Jersey, as they immigrated from Germany, though he and his father are from Connecticut. Damn Yankees.
nononononono He went to Yale. That's all CT will own up to. Despite the fact he was born in New Haven.
