Wow, i just watched this movie and my head is spinning. I don't usually feel so strongly about a movie, but this one was nearly too much for me to get my head around tonight... I don't know why... wow. Has anyone else seen this? What did you think??? It made no sense to me, and at the same time made perfect sense. I don't understand the mystery or the characters or what happened... but it really blew my mind. Ahhhhh.

    I love this movie!!

I had to watch it a couple times to figure out what it was about. My theory is that Diane shoots herself (commits suicide) and the first part of the movie is her last "dream". It probably only lasts a few seconds in her mind. Who knows what goes on in our brain just before we die.

The fantasy part of the movie is in her head, where she's "Betty" and Camilla is "Rita". The other part is what really happened, her lover leaves her for someone else, she hires a hitman to kill Camilla and then kills herself.

They say your life flashes before your eyes when you die, well maybe it's just a dream, a strange and nice dream.

It's pretty good, but it's not one of my favorite Lynch movies which are his earlier works like Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, and Blue Velvet.

I find some of Lynch's newer movies to be pretentious in some regards, and not always in a good way.

    Lynch is weird.

    I can't explain why I like him....but I am a huge Twin Peaks fan..so perhaps I just enjoy having a headache.

Mullholand Drive, i don't remember too well, but blue velvet was WILD. i sat in a room with 5 people to watch it and there was silence the WHOLE time except when one person mumbled "it makes me kind of uncomfortable...." crazy experience

I got it from the library and thankfully, that means I didn't have to pay to see it.

I HATED it. Just like you said, it made absolutely no damned sense -- and in my view, a movie that doesn't even let itself be understood is a BAD MOVIE. What's the friggin' point?! I can't figure out why that director is supposed to be so wonderful a film-maker.

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

One of my favorite Lynch films, along with eraserhead and lost highway. I love the places and situations he puts his characters in, and the dark atmosphere thats present on most of his films are amazing. In my opinion, the first half, or 3 quarters of the film is great, but I dont like the second part as much. Its not as even of a film as are some of his other films. Nonetheless, still one of my favorite films of all time.

I've watched at least a dozen times.. and am still no closer to understanding it... the only reason I bought it kuz this cute guy at Walmart picked it out and said it was the best movie he's seen in years. All I know is my head hurt and I'm pretty sure my ears were bleeding after I watched it the first time. And yet... I keep watching it... its kinda like crack.

Loved Mulholland Dr. Lynch is one of the few artists still working in amercian film. It isn't really that hard to get your head round once you start paying attention to the fact that events are not taking place in the order you see them, also, as someone else said, part of the film is a dream/nightmare brought on by guilt. A really great film, mis/non-understood by people with lazy minds who just need spoon feeding the storyline and told what happened, why, where, at what time etc...

I dont think anyone interprets the story as Lynch does and i dont think we'll ever find it out because he will never explains his own interpretations of his films. The only thing i think hes said about the film is its " a love story in the city of dreams", which is pretty vague in itself once you see the film.
