As you probably have read in my signature for a while now, I've posted this: MAKE THE WORLD A WARMER PLACE! Those of you who KNIT or CROCHET to please KNIT OR CROCHET A HAT FOR CHARITY. I'm currently collecting, hoping to collect 100 hats. Please PM me for info or pattern. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162873 This above link is a toque pattern I posted in the Knitty Gritty Personal Forum, in case you need a toque pattern. It's unbelievably easy and can be knit in a day or less. My goal is to collect 100 toques by August 31st of this year to send to a needy charity looking for warm clothes, likely to be sent to a 3rd world country. IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW KNITS, PLEASE MAKE ONE OF THESE HATS. You can pm me for my mailing address, to send it to me. The reason why I'm doing this collection is so that I can contact local newspapers during August - not for self promotion, but rather to promote the charity I'm mailing the hats to, in order to bring positive attention. If you truly want to spread a little good karma in the world, please put some effort into this. If you don't want to knit a hat, you can donate a used hat in good condition. Thanks!also, as a side note: for those whom are debating between sending your knits to your local thrift store (also, a good charity, I'm not knocking it) instead of to the project I'm doing: An American whose income is in the bottom 10% of all US residents has a higher standard of living than two-thirds of the populations of the rest of the world. By donating knits to a more international cause you'd be better helping those who need it! Please feel free to pass on!
btw... The pattern I posted was just a suggestion, in case someone needed a pattern. To be perfectly honest, I could care less of what type of yarn used, whether it's knit or crocheted or store bought, or what size it is. As long as it fits a child or adult and it's a hat, then it's all good.
Just an fyi... I'm currently up to 8 hats... 92 more to go! Once I get all of them, you don't have to hear from me any more! PM me if you need my mailing address once ur hats are done!
You couldn't have started this at a better time. I am moving from Ohio to Flordia and I have a ton of pretty new, great condition winter stuff. I would love to help you out, you will take sweaters, scarves and the like right? Feel free to email me your information and I'll send em out straight away...also I have a ton of other items my family was looking at giving to the good will store but it would be better to give to someone I know (well I don't know you very well but eh we post on the same site that kinda qualifies us..lol). So drop me an email sometime today or tomarrow and I'll go pick up a box at the post office and send away some things. Also if you would like I can see if my Peace club at the Highschool I used to go to is still active and if they would start up a donation, I know they would love to..and I am pretty sure they are still running...hell it's only been a year. I will also put a box at the office I work at, there are always people taking donations to give to the needy...hopefully that is not too much stuff...lol...let me know whats up. GBPackerfan1122@yahoo.com, thats the one I check everyday. Peace and good luck, Al
I know this seems redundant and few people are probably reading this thread, but I did want to post one last time that I do appreciate all the hats (and some homemade scarves and mitts too!) that folks from here have already sent. Please keep them coming. For those of you who already have my mailing address, please keep it in mind until the end of august, in case you collect any more scraps you can knit together and mail me. For those of you who don't but are interested, please email me asap before August 31st and make sure your knits are in the mail by then. Hopefully this'll be a big enough success!
I've again just recieved 3 more hand knit and hand crocheted hats in the mail! Thanks! Keep 'em comin'!
dunno... I actually just emptied the boxes into a pile that I have.... will count at the end of August... far from 100, I'm sure....
