To make ourselves look taller. In the "olden" days...it was a sign of power to be taller...it forced people to respect you, I guess... Now, it's practically the only dress shoe there is for women. It also makes your legs look longer, which some people consider sexy... I don't know...
To look pretty, dance better (ballroom dance... not super high heels but a couple inchs), a certain amount of sex appeel is attached to wearing them too. I dont wear them very often but it's sort of like playing dressup when i do.
I caved and bought high heels (and learned to walk in them) after giving up on finding any cute, comfortable, flat sandals that looked good with a skirt. Every shoe store I've been to in the past year and a half has had no more than 5 (often less) styles of sandals that were not flip-flops (which I think are less comfy than heels) or high heeled and that were under $35 (brands like birkenstocks may have great options, but hell if I will ever pay over $100 for a frickin pair of sandals!).
It's mainly a tallness thing for me. I'm only 4'11 barefoot, so any bit of height counts for me. Also, they make my legs look longer, and to me its attractive.
i don`t ever wear heels actually...have only worn them on two occasions in my life thus far (prom both years). they`re uncomfortable, and for the most part i`m far too down-to-earth to be interested in anything associated with sex appeal or dressing up.
I am tall....and when I am dressed up, I like wearing heels. Flats make me feel frumpy and my feet feel huge... So to answer the original Q....some women wear them, and some don't.
I'm not fond of heeled shoes but I like a boot with a bit of heel. Boot heels are usually more platform and sturdier though, not the crazy torture devices that the shoes can be.
They make me feel sexay! Plus 5'3" isn't exactly tall. I've been able to wear them only a few times since I've been pregnant. That's all I wore before I got pregnant, though. That, and sometimes flip-flops. I think heels are super comfortable. Wedges are nice, too.
they make your body reposition itself in a manner that is commonly seen at more attractive. i did a research paper this last year in college on feet and wow are high heels bad. they cause bunyans, mess up the calve muscles and .. eek. yeah nope. i used to wear them throughtout high school. really tall ones (usualy wedges though) and then gave up when i noticed my feet were oddly shaped anymore. now i stick to flats. i own one pair of heels and i can't even walk in them anymore. lol its not like a bicycle i guess.
Bunions are primarily caused by wearing shoes that are too short (press your toe in) actually... high heels add to the problem but wearing shoes that don't fit properly is the main culprit at work.
I used to wear them all the time cuz I'm basiclaly 5 foot nothin and everyone in school used to make jokes about my height. It was the only way anyone could find me in the hall (or otherwise, they would tell eachother to look for the gap in the crowd in order to find me). Now, I enjoy my shortness. I think that it's fun, lol I did like how they made my legs look longer, but I also have very muscular, large legs, so it didn't look right most of the time. I love bare feet and flip flops now. My calf muscles also feel a ton better in the last few years that I haven't worn them.
yeah, because they are fun. I don't wear heels every day, but sometimes they are great fun to bust out occasionally...and yeah, like someone said they make me feel sexah (and i gotta admit I like feeling that, especially around my boyfriend)
