So you've got some weed. Either you grew it, dried and cured it or bought it.
Either way, you need to keep it in an air-tight container, out of the light, in a cool place. Handling/crushing, light and/or heat degrades the THC.
A small tupperware container will do nicely. Keeping that in the fridge is ok if you have a lot.
Now, take a bud out and pop it into a shot glass. Get some long narrow scissors, stick it down into the shot glass and snip snip snip. You'll have weed in a much better condition to smoke than breaking it up by hand, and you won't lose THC like when you break it up by hand.
The weed can then be tapped out into a paper or bowl, so you don't lose any.

Interesting... What kind of loss are we talking here when it comes to breaking up by hand? I probably won't do it any other way because I really don't have the patience and often have to do it unfriendly conditions, but I'm curious nonetheless.

I believe you do lose some thc using scissors. On the sides of the shot glass, your hands handling the bud, and your scissors sides.
When im breaking up a hits worth i crumble between two fingers over the bowl and i really dont waste that much.

Same here. Although I do usually see a powdery substance on my fingertips when I'm done.

the amount of thc lost on the sides of plastic baggies and shot glasses and your fingers would be so miniscule, it wouldn't hardly even matter at all. you're going to be getting more pot eventually anyways, why spend all the effort in trying to save a little bit of thc? I use plastic baggies cuz they're easy, and you get a shitload of them for cheap. I use my grinder to break apart pot, then after a bitchload of rounds, collect the powder at the bottom and smoke it......

If you see a "powdery substance" or your fingers or your fingers are sticky after you break up a bud, you're wasting THC.
And like I said, keeping pot in a plastic bag likely degrades it, from handling/crushing it, and from light.
Also, keeping it in an airtight container keeps it fresh, keeps the weed from getting crispy dry which ruins it.

I guess it has a lot to do with someones personality. If you like good food properly cooked, you'll probably like keeping your weed in good condition.
On the other hand, if your ideas of fine dining is AM/PM hot dogs, then keep your weed in a plastic bag and don't care if it gets dry and crushed and ruined.

Thats why I use glass jars to store my herb and use a grinder to break up my herb. Any left over THC is going into a kief press.

ie, with the shotglass. but it was a tall shotglass, a double shotter with signle shotter width. so only longer narrover scissors could be used to fit into the glass, and youd end up with a shot of minced weed
