I'm not asking wether or not you belive in marriage - I was wondering if any people here have had any interesting ceremonies of anykind - like I always planned if i ever did get married or something thats not marriage but similar that it would basically be a really good party in a forest somwhere on a warm summers night with a good stereo system and some beer and some good friends/family.But then i always did live in cloud cuckoo land
I've always envisioned my "wedding" going something like this: Hubby to be and I sit up in a tree together, smoke a little herb and talk about everything we're excited to be able to do for each other for the rest of our lives, all of our plans, reminisce about our first days together, when we KNEW it was forever, etc. Just go over our romance together and then make our promises, our vows to each other. Something like "I promise to always leave the toilet seat down if you promise to not nag me about my Sunday football watching habits". While we're up in the tree, our family and friends are down below, standing in a circle around the tree, holding hands, meditating on our union and sending up good vibes to us. When we're finished with our pact, we come back down the tree and party for the rest of the day with our friends and family. I've always thought my wedding would be a private affair for me and my husband, not some outlandish fairy tale church wedding. My dream wedding just seems more "personal" to me. Now, if only I can find Mr. Right. *sigh*
My wedding was fairly simple, most people said it was the coolest/most fun wedding they've ever been to. The ceremony was short, no more than 15 minutes from the time I walked down the aisle until the time we kissed. It was all outside, very simple dress (he was in khakis and a button-up tee shirt, I was in a satin skirt and tank top, entire budget for clothes was less than $100) and we just told people to wear whatever they're comfortable in - don't care if it's a fancy tux or gown, or jeans and a tee shirt. I went barefoot, so did my maid of honour. After the ceremony... well, DIRECTLY after the ceremony, we had people coming up and rushing us over to their cars, or off a bit into the woods, giving us weed and/or smoking us up as their "congrats". Everybody brought their own drinks, and wine was shared between us, the best man, the maid of honour... and my husband's grandpa, because he's Ukranian and a HUGE wine drinker and we shared our wine (he had his own) to show respect, because that's what they would have done "in the old country" - respect your elders. There were four friends with guitars (one was my stepdad's best friend, which was awesome) and a couple people with drums, music was played, we all sat around, listened, talked in random groups of 'anyone that wants to join' and drank. I sang a few songs with my maid of honour, she sings and plays guitar. Later, we had a fire and the music was the main focus at that point. The people left and everything ended at around 11:30 mainly because I was almost falling asleep and my husband was pretty tired, too... otherwise, we just might have sat up all night, playing music and talking.
