i love bright eyes....im not emo or anything, but i do tend to cry if i listen to an alblum by them all the way through. I like the song Bowl of Oranges, because it always makes me feel better if im sad. The lyrics to the songs are all beautifully written

I really wanted to get into him, but he's just a no-talent poser wannabe type guy. Not even much of a guy though.

He just rambles on and on about nothing, trying to sound poetic, and his "singing" literally hurts me when I listen to him.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of allmusic.com did some nice reviews of those two crappy popular albums he released at the same time in '05. all of his fans should check them out. :H

conor may be a lot of things, but a poser really isn't one of them. on a related note, if you are a fan of bright eyes you will probably love maria taylor, she sings backing vocals on a lot of his tracks and is also on the same label (saddle creek) her album is 11:11 and it is beautiful

I hate how people fall for his shitty wanna-be-artistic lyrics
they are terrible, he tries way too hard to seem artsy, and yes, in that respect he is a poser

and Politics are Awesome, let's make babies

i totally disagree with the poser comments. he just writes lyrics that he wants to be heard, that doesnt make him a poser. if anything , i think hes the exact opposite of a poser, and that some other bands try to copy his style. I'll admit, i dont think hes the best singer (or the band is great at playing their instruments) but still, his lyrics are real

I agree conor is not a poser of artsyness of any thing many do not like bright eyes, and he is not! trying to sound poetic, he mearly makes songs that the fans will hear that go weel with current emotions , for example if i am feeling sad i will listen to first day of my life to get happy, when i am love sick i will listen to haligh, haligh, a lie, haligh, when depressed the calender hung itself conor is a boy genius of music, in his still short lifetime at 14 he started recording he is now 21-25 not sure but he owns his own label and has a HUGE fan base, now im sure thats more then most of you have done in your lives, i know it;s way more then i ahve done and i can only wish to be like him

Uhhhh, he is definitely not a poser. The guy doesn't care about the popularity and he doesn't care about his image. He's been approached by almost every major label record and rejected every offer to stay with the independent Saddle Creek.

If not for Connor Oberst, most likely The Faint, Cursive, Maday and Tilly and the Wall wouldn't exist.

He's overatted but he deserves it, he really is that great of a writer. I listen to so much modern indie music and I really think a lot of bands/singers lyrics pale in comparasion. I like you guys, but maybe you're mad because an indie artist hasn't gotten so much attention since Fugazi and Pinback? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the guy can't really sing (I love his voice though) but I don't really think that stops him from being great.

If you guys can list some current artists with better lyrics maybe I'll be convinced but I really don't think there's much out there. There's this guy called Willy Mason getting a lot of media and people claiming he's a better writer, but I think otherwise.

Sorry. I always get defensive when people attack one of my favorite singers of all time.

    Are you fucking kidding?
The thing that introduced me to Bright Eyes was his quote, "Whether people praise or criticize, it's only going to make me more self-conscious." He's obviously trying to create some sort of Daniel Johnston-ish emotionally-disabled persona for himself.

Its not that, its just that he's a no-talent piece of shit. Out of all the musicians I can think of, he's definitely among my least favourite when it comes to music. I by far hate him more than I do anyone else when it comes to image, though.

I thought you hated me. :H

Yeah I read that article, too. But, really, what artist ISN'T affected by the media? Even Kurt Cobain became self consience when his anti fashion statement because THE fashion in pop culture of the youth. It's not a strong arguement because quite honestly every artist is to some extent.I just believe he's being honest.

And it's honestly okay if you don't like him or his music--but you ignored to mention anyone who's currently a better writer? So--it's hard to say he has no talent

It's all subjective, really, and i thought you were being a tad sarcastic with your praise of oberst... but whatever.

just a few off the tip of my mind, in mostly no particular order:
Tracyanne Campbell, Jon Auer, Kevin Barnes, Paul McCartney, Colin Meloy, Jeff Mangum, Ryan Adams, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Joanna Newsom, Andy Cabic, Toby Keith, Wayne Coyne, Noel Gallagher, Bruce Springsteen, Jenny Lewis, Alan Jackson...

While music is subjective, S.T. Erlewine knows what he's talking about.

Just because he's been recording since such a young age doesn't mean that we have to worship him like he wants everyone to. :p

I'm glad you like the songs. :)
But I was just on there and had no friend requests..
