Is anyone else having trouble figuring out what they want to do? I've been thinking about it for the last 3 years and I'm so frustrated.

My boyfriend has the same problem. He dropped out of college for a year, to help his mom pay the bills and such, but he's using the time as a sort of sabbatical, to figure out what he wants to do. He's thinking of becoming a nurse, and he's going to consider it for the entire year he's working, to make certain that's what he wants. My advice would be to take some regular, non major-specific classes (literature, math, etc.) if you go to a technical school first. As for a four year university, I wouldn't worry too much. Take as many basic classes as you can, but keep in mind that most undergrads change their majors as often as they change their underpants. (that's definately an exaturation, but you know what I mean).

i'm gonna be a plumber. always wanted to be a musician (can play 4 instruments at high level) but chances of that are pretty slim and i'd enjoy it more as a hobby. the money in the plumbing trade, jesus christ - there's loads to be made and it's constant work plus it's getting around different places and not being stuck in one place (or area).

You're only 17!!! Most of the people I knew in college went in for one thing, changed majors a few times, and wound up graduating with a degree in something totally unrelated to what they thought they wanted to do when they were freshmen!

Let some of that pressure off -- the academic system in this country is designed to force you to experience a wide range of subjects (general education requirements), thereby allowing you to dip your toes into a few things before making any solid decision. There's definitely no need to figure it all out before you even finish high school!

My parents pressured me to enroll in university and I really regret that I caved.

It's cool that you're already thinking about careers though--just don't let anyone push you into anything.

just go to school for a docterate's so you can become a physician......if you dont know what you want to do....the easy way out is to go for the highest paying job..... that way you wont have to work till your like 50.....and if you retire early...you can do what the hell you want....

thats what im gonna do anyways

I have to respectfully disagree with the above post, since becoming a doctor is so much work, and cost a lot of money, if you heart is not into it you will not follow through with it. I second the recomendation of taking General Education courses, which will be required for any bachelor's degree, as a way of exploring what is out there.
