(MODERATOR NOTE: Original post in this thread deleted as spam, but all replies have turned in to a nice thread, good work posters! -xaosflux) From my experience, Sony makes great things EXCEPT for computers. They had a problem with an entire line once where the units would shut off and wouldn't turn on for WEEEKS at a time. HP + Compaq are okay, but don't expect great things from them. I've actually had very few problems with Gateway, so check them out if you can afford one. Most valuable piece of advice: DO NOT BUY A DELL.
COMPAQ is fine if you like to keep your laptop plugged into a wall outlet due to rapid deterioration of battery charge. HP is another story though. just say no. i have owned 2 HP's and on one, the ide controller broke from normal operation; the other, well, it just wont turn on, again from normal operation. HP is fine if you dont mind losing all your files and buying another laptop in a few months. i know that HP and COMPAQ are made by the same company or w/e, but all my HP's have failed me and my COMPAQ's have not. and i just dont like SONY right now, but thats a bias thing.
Sony being bad?? Hell I had mine for 2 years and gave it to my sister and she still has it. It has been dropped, bumped around in a semi truck and treated badly, dvd works great and other than marks on the case it works perfect. I bought a new Toshiba and will never do that again, junk, been only a few months and the DVD player is all jumpy, lost a key, and there is a line in my screen. Slow piece of shit. Step up and get an Alienware, best of the best, lol
Ok, heres the deal: no matter what brand it is, where it's made, how much they advertise them, EVERY laptop will have people who swear by them and people who vomit at their mention. Honestly, all laptops suck in their own special way, so just pick the freshest smelling shit and go with it.
