hello everybody, ive been wanting to wrap one or 2 of my dreads with maybe hemp or wool, but i dont know how to get the wrap to stay in my dreads. do i have to tie knots or something? any advice? thank you all
you take the end of the string (either hemp or wool) and fold about the end centimeter over. hold that centimeter near the root of your dread. (with the end pointing toward the rest of the dread, not the scalp). start wrapping the rest of the string around both the dread and the centimeter chunk. this will hold the top. you'll want a second string (second color?) and after say.. an inch of wrapping the first string around, hold the first string down on the dread and do with the second one what you did with the first, but going also around the first string. whenever you want the color to change back (if you're doing two colors), hold the string down you were wrapping with, and start wrapping with the one that was being wrapped over. at the end, have the string thats being wrapped over hang longer than the dread. keep wrapping with the other string down past the dread and knot the strings. i personally like to not have to go to the whole thing, so i just knot them wherever i feel like ending it. hemp holds water longer, so be careful with it in your dreads. i have been told it can cause mold. but i'm not sure how long that it has to be there to do that... i had some in my dreads for a few weeks and was fine. i hope that makes sense. its easy to do.. hard to type out the instructions.
