Mine is Carlson's in Duluth, Minnesota. If you ever get to Duluth make sure you check this place out. I am sure it has at least one copy of every book ever printed. Lots of back issues of obscure magazines. CDs, porn mags, gay/lesbian/bi mags. It is a very cool place, but if you have a dust allergy you had better premedicate!
Sounds cool. I can't remember what they're called, but I've been to nice ones in Madison and Milwaukee. We have The Attic here, used bookstore and coffee shop.
Ichabod's in Denver, Dickson Street Books in Fayetteville, Ark., Bookstall in Norman, Oklahoma, THew bookshop in Archer City Texas (owned and run by Larry McMurtry) and the bookshop run by the lesbian couple in Lincoln, Nebraska. While not used, I have to give props to the most astounding bookstore, City Lights. not many places you can go and meet the likes of Lawrence Ferlinghetti over the phrase, "Can I help you?"
well it is not a stoor but their is this place in alfred ny that has this little stand in the middle of town where you pick a book out and drop one off it is cool....
There is a great little used bookstore in Marlbourough NH called the Homestead Bookshop. I was there a few months back, visiting from NM and I was lookin for the book Johnny Got His Gun and the owner couldn't find it. Well my husband had given him our address and would you believe 2 months later he sent me the book free of charge with a note saying "I hope you still need this, enjoy". Made my whole week. If you are ever in the are you should check it out. It's on Route 101.
DEFINATLEY a bookstore (forget the name) in this awesome place in atlanta. Plenty of rare, out of print, and generally awesome books on : psychedelics, spirituality, politics, religon, philosophy, nutrition/diet/eating, natural lifestyle, alternative lifestyle, aliens/ufo/paranormal, martial arts, eastern philopsophy , etc
i would have to say the book barn in east lyme CT it the biggest used book store i have ever been to and they have everything best part is the majority of the building are barns or farmhouses
Is it A Cappella Books in Little Five Points? That is definately one of my favorites. They specialize in rare, used, and out of print books and generally have a good selection of the types you mentioned so maybe that's the one you are thinking of. There's also a good one in Yellow Springs, Ohio, which was very reasonable but I don't remember the name.
Powell's City of Books in Portland, Oregon rules. It's not all used books; there are plenty of new books mixed in as well, but you can find a great variety of used books at a decent price. It was definitely worth a day's sidetrip on Amtrak from Seattle.
Ames Used Books in Grass Valley, CA rules! At least they always have a lot of good stuff I'm looking for like books in the Dragonlance series and I got this hilarious Simpsons family photo album once before.
Its 75 miles to any town or city from here that would have a good used bookstore, next time I'm in Yellow Springs, Staples420 I'll look for the one you mentioned... That being the case i have about 20 books now that I've bought from www.half.com I borrow books from the library then if I really like them i by them here. Most of the one's I get are used and they have had 95% of the ones I look for. Most I buy are 1.00-3.00 dollars and 2.79 flat rate shipping for media mail. Painting, cooking, gardening, digging a well, exercise, crafts, sewing and playing music are some of the subjects of books I've bought from them. that being said...of course there is no real substitute for a honest to goodness used bookstore... teepi
i work in a cafe thats attatched to the Ron Abbey Bookhouse. its a fantastic bookshop and because i work nextdoor, the woman that owns it knows what sort of books i like and points stuff out to me but theres also a fantastic one in sydney called Sapho books and it has a little coffee machine and some tables in the middle of the bookshop. yum, smells like old books and coffee
There's a bookstore near my parents' place, I forget the name of it but it's such an awesome bookstore... They've tons of new age books!
The Book End in Newark CA used to be a great little used/new bookstore till it was made into a Christian Bookstore. They no longer have tarot decks and occult books. It made me really sad. I wish I could find a place near my house to go to that has discounted books. I walked in after years of not visiting and asked about tarot decks. the lady gave me a weird look. Sucks giant donkey balls I tell ya!!
Man... they can't stay in business here in So. Cal. It's sad, you can't get too used to one. They'll be times when there isn't one in the area for years. Gotta be a horrible way to make a living.. So.. my fav one is the only one around here. Heh.
Book Bins in Pt. Pleasant New Jersey, they sell everything and if you want it they will get it for you
