okay so a vegan buys products that contain no animal material ......but what about these products that are vegan friendly and are made by meat eating workers ?.....isn't this still supporting the meat industry? ....

How would it be supporting the meat industry?

As an ethical vegan I never thought of it that way before. It's a great question.I may be supporting them, but I'm minimizing my support in the best way I know how. There's a shit-ton of meateaters in this world and I'm sure many of them have jobs creating veg-friendly products. How can one know for sure who the meatmouths are and who the vegheads are?. I think that's a bit more extreme than I'm willing to be, and I'm pretty dedicated to living as cruelty-free a life as I possibly can. Minimizing my impact is my main concern. I work hard to maintain my cause, but it just seems a little... over the top for me to try and monitor the dietary and/or cosmetic habits of my product makers. Maybe someone can convince me otherwise.

Except you aren't supporting the meat industry, they are.

You're only supporting their lives. What they do with their money is their decision, not yours.

If you want to think of money that has your fingerprints on it always staying as "your money," then guess what, the meat industry also supports you, so you might as well hang yourself.

Another good point brought out by this statement is that the world is not perfect. Nobody can be perfectly vegan. The point is to do what one can to right the wrong. One of those things is to lead a vegan lifestyle.

Every economy includes meat -- if you believe that you must be so pure that you can't even be associated with an economy that deals in meat, then I'm afraid you're out of luck unless you have the money to buy your own tropical island.

lol... If you buy your veggies at a grocery store, aren't you supporting a company that supports the meat industry? And even if you get ALL of your veggies at a farmer's market, have you checked to see that those farmers & their kids are vegan? And if they are, where did they get the seeds? Does everyone that works at the seed company live a vegan lifestyle? Yeah, it gets to sounding a bit silly after awhile... but where do you draw the lines?

I think that unless you've found Hikaru's private island you're going to be "supporting" the meat industry in some teeny tiny way no matter what you do. But really you can't be held accountable for what someone else does with their money/diet. What they do with the money after you've paid for vegan food/clothes is out of your control. Sure, if you find a company that does something cool like "15% of our purchases go towards the rebuilding of..." then by all means support them. But that's not always going to be an option. Know that as a vegan you are not DIRECTLY supporting the meat industry and sleep easy.
    love,
    mom

we are lookin into forming an Association of Vegan Workers....those products that fit the criteria will bear a symbol much like the current made in america logo seen on products...we hope this will clear up any confusion and seperate those products that are made by vegans....

I figured out the solution to the problem... we'll all own 20-35 acres of land and grow our own crops, from our own seeds and eat only what we can cultivate. We'll also live in tents made of corn husks because we can't support ANY company at all... . This is just absurd, but, if it works at all, I'm a willing participant. Infact, this PC is going out the window right now..........*connection lost*

Are you seriously suggesting that employers be given the power to look into their workers eating habits in order to properly label their products.
Are you encouraging employers to take that degree of interest in their employees private lives?
Hmm...who would suffer more under an employer diet regime, veggies or omnis?

    Let's not find out.
