Whats your thery on why she is smiling? Is she really Leonardo in drag? Is she sercretly pregnant Is she bored and just started laughing and he wanted to show that in the painting? Its a question we wont ever find out the answer to But the question will always be there
she smiled cause she never really did they say and he kinda told her to smile cause he dont want his work to be like sad lol i forgot how my teacher put it, i saw something in the history channel also!
I realize that this isn't really a "serious" thread, but there is a lot of mystery about the painting... things that people don't know. For example, "Mona Lisa"... it just means Lady Lisa. Mona is a shortened form of Madona, which means Lady in Italian. The name came about as it was believed to be a portrait of a woman named Lisa del Giocondo. An alternate title for the painting is "La Gioconda", a feminization of her last name, which traslates into English as lighthearted, or jocond. This name ties in her last name with her famous smile. But they don't know for sure who the woman was. Some now believe that it was one of the female Medici's (famously rich old Italian family and supporters of the arts), some believe it's Da Vinci himself dressed in drag, while still others believe she is Isabella of Aragon, dutchess of Milan. As for the eyebrows... a lot of women of that time plucked all of the facial hair off, so it is not really an indication of the work being unfinished. Originally, the figure was framed by 2 painted pillars which were removed at some point after the artist's death. You can still see the bases of the columns in the painting. Also the background of the painting is imaginary and totally uneven.... it doesn't match up if you mentally continue it behind her. Mountains on one side, a lake on the other. Alright.. I've bored you all enough. Class over... but your papers are due on Tuesday!
her eyes are absolutely beautiful and i think because they are missing the eyebrows and eyelashes it makes her eyes look more mysterious then if they were to have the defining lines of eyebrows or eyelashes~
