Hey i wanted to let all you guys know to check your ingrediants on everything! A while ago i thought i was taking proper vitamens that i needed and they ended up having geliton in them. theres so much to look out for.
I get vitamins that are made specifically for veggies and vegans. They're a little more expensive but I'm reassured by the Vegan Society logo on the packaging.
i have this book http://www.spunk.org/texts/food/sp001610.txt i'ts pretty cheap. usually under 10 bucks. it's very useful and you'll learn a lot
Nope and the company who makes them are Seven Seas which normally makes fish oil vitamins etc. I'm doing my bit by not eating animals & by-products but I've also got to think about MY health!
you have to watch out for some salad dressings too, i found that ceasar dressing has anchovies in it! and NEVER eat french fries or hashbrowns from places like mcdonalds-they put meat flavoring in the oil!
i found out yesterday that marshmellos have geletain in them too. so, is there a such thing as vegetarian/vegan marshmellows?
yep seen them in the health food store... "vegetarian marshmellows" I was upset to find out some mexican restaurants flavor their rice with chicken stock, also there black beans, which i always assumed were veggie before hand. Apparently some restaurants serve meat marinara with there cheese stixs, have I ever once even thought to ask NO. It's always a good idea to stay away from processed foods period. For more than just vegetarian reasons. Plus I generally enjoy my cooking more than most restaurants anyways.
Those ingrediants can be quite tricky. It helps to read EVERYTHING before buying it. Be careful even in health food stores/organic stores as well because I have noticed that there are some foods containing animal ingrediants in them. If you go to a vegan store, then obviously you wouldn't have to watch out, but I don't have any vegan stores in my area, so I have to shop at health food stores. I have been looking forever for vegan marshmallows, but I have yet to find them anywhere . Ah well...I think I can survive without them .
of course you have to read the ingredients on everything, thats part of the sacrifice of being veg(an).
I found this ink for vegansweet marshmellows. $3.79 a bag or Irregular Marshmellows for $1.19 a bag. http://www.veganstore.com/index-store.html?page=2&deptid=17125&parentid=45&itemsperpage=12 The store seems to carry a lot of vegan food and other items. Kathi
