Okay yesterday was Day 3 of my dreadlocks I backcombed them and all they were perfectly tight as hell, I went swimming for like 5 mins my mom told me they fell out is this normal for dreads at young age? QUICK INFORMATION! My hair is very very straight and thick should I thin my hair out also?
I know I've told you this before, with my daughter's hair the backcombing had to all fall out before it could start to dread. Backcombed hair looks kinda like dreads, but it isn't. For some people, backcombing actually prevents dreads from forming! It has to fall out before it will knot up good and tight. Might work okay on coarser hair, maybe, though. My kid has very fine red hair (the silkiest, straightest, softest hair imaginable) and it's dreading up just fine ever since I stopped backcombing it.
yea ive had my dread for a year and a month now and the tips are still falling out, but when they do that all of the sudden you will notice your hair is dreading a lot now. it takes a lot of time and they go through weird stages, but its all part of the journey so dont worry about anything. you will have nice tight beautiful dreads in a lil bit. you dont need to thin out ur hair, my hair was straight as a board and it was thick, and it knotted. your hair WILL eventually knot up, but when i have no clue haha. have fun and patience is key man, you dont just wake up one morning with dreads (well kind of but you know wat i mean!! ) peace~
mine were backcombed, and only the baby hairs at hairline would come out. but i didnt go swimming until after a month. .. but that was just due to the fact that i didnt have the oppurtunity. are you sure you backcombed correctly?
you should backcomb them again and this time wait a few weeks before you go swimming. i say its worth it man, peace~
yeah what i figured i'd do is just backcomb em I just did half my head btw lol anyway just backcomb em and go natural and wash my hair atleast once or twice a week and spray my hair down with natural sea salts (which tighten'd my dreads so quickly!)
Scorpius I had the same problem about a week after I backcombed. I was told by three friends that had done dreads the same way, that your backcoming WILL fall out, and it has to to start the locking process in most cases. Your hair settles down and begins to lock itself, meaning it falls out, loosens up, gets frizzy and loopy then starts to lock all over again naturaly. Backcombing will retard this process for most caucasion people, seeing as how your hair will have to go through the process of settling again (falling out of the backcombing) The best advice I was given was to leave my hair alone...2+ weeks now, my hair is frizzy and has fly aways, but feels much tighter then when I had them put in. Hope this helps you out Peace, Ryan
