Just yesterday I found out I am almost 5 weeks pregnant. The due date of the baby? April Fools Day! (4/1/2007) That got a laugh out of my husband and I.

Also, after determining the conception date we realized that the poor thing was conceived in a cheap motel room in Arkansas! (We were travling back to Austin from visiting my parents in Michigan.) LOL

We knew we wanted kids, but we wern't exactly planning on it so soon. We're excited, though. The biggest problem is that I don't have health insurance (one reason we didn't want to get pregnant yet). Fortunatly, I have already been in contact with the Texas Health and Human Resources department and I will probably be able to be covered through the state during the pregnancy. I am meeting with them tomorrow. Anyone else have experience using state aid for insurance, is it a hassle, does it restrict your choices more?

I guess I just wanted to spread the news, since I'm excited. We're waiting until after I see an OB/GYN before spreading the news to our families (do people usually tell family members right away?), so I thought here was the perfect place to gush, for now anyways!

    Congratulations! :D

I am using Kentucky Medicaid. It's a great thing. They pay for everything I need, no co-pay needed.

I told my boyfriend and mother before I went to the OB/GYN. Of course, my mother doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut (So if you're trying to keep it under wraps and your mother is like mine....I wouldn't say anything). Then my boyfriend and I told everyone.

Did it take you a long time to get setup on medicaid, or was it a pretty simple process? (I'm going down to the office to apply tomorrow)

If I recall, you have to provide proof of pregnancy, income and expenses. I filled out an application, took a pregnancy test results to them and proof of bills and pay stubs. It's not that bad really. I think in most states, you can choose either an obgyn or a midwife. Some private dr.s don't accept medicaid, but I've found a lot will.

    Congrats!!!!!!
I don't live in the states, so I don't know anything about insurance down there.
About the "waiting to tell thing," some women chose to wait until the first trimester is over, as that's when the most can go wrong in regards to loosing the baby, and after that, the pregnancy is usually good to go. But most people who say that can't contain themselves for more than a week (with me, I think it was about an hour, lol...waited 3 weeks to tell my mom, though, I was scared she was going to lop my head off, even though I lived with my boyfriend, lol)
if you have any questions, be sure to come over to the parenting board. All the mamas over there are awsome.

    As has already been said:
Proof of pregnancy from a doctor with your expected due date.
    Pay stubs.
Mine asked for rent stubs as well.
Drivers license and one other form of I.D.
Then I had to have someone not related to me sign papers in favor of all the information I'd given them.
I got my card a week later.

I applied yesterday, and they said it would be about a week or two. Is it ok to wait that long before going to the doctor? (I'd be 6-7 weeks by then).

I think I might wait until after my first doctor's appointment before telling people, just to make sure everything is normal before I get everyone all excited.

It's generally pretty fine that your doc's appointment isn't till then. Many women don't even find out their preggers until well after the 6th week. As long as you feel fine and there's no bleeding, all should be good. If you start to feel funny at all, though, go to emerg.

I actually feel pretty good, except I am extremely tired and have VERY sore boobs. No "morning sickness" yet (although my digestive system seems to be out of whack).

I didn't have my first appointment until I was about 3 months along. I also didn't realize I was pregnant until then. I spotted the month before which I mistook as a normal period....and was also really sick and figured much of my tiredness/soreness was on account of that.

Well, that's good to hear. It's perfectly normal to feel completely wiped...I was sleeping upwards of 18 hours a day for the first few weeks. Some women have fatigue the whole pregnancy, but it usually dissapears after the first trimester.
Same thing goes for the soar boobs.
As for the morning sickness, it usually doesn't kick in until about 6 weeks or so. That's when mine came. That's what actually made me really wonder if I was pregnant....my periods were always off by about a week, so I thought nothing of it, but when I was working the midnight shift at work, and telling the girl I was working with how I felt hungry, but couldn't stomach any food, she asked if I was preggers. That morning after I got off work, I went and bought the pregnancy test....
but yeah, mine was BAD, I actually had to take a month off work. Just driving past the resteraunt I worked at (Tim Hortons), I actually had to pull over the car and puke on the side of the road.
Seriously, I wish that I could have rented all my meals...by the time I was done eating, I'd throw up in the parking lot of any resteraunt we went to.
But thankfully, it disaperared by the 14th week, the end of the first trimester. Actually, it was right on the exact day.
Some women will get it in the 2nd trimester, others in the third, and some have it last the whole time, but it's most common in the first.
Some (lucky ones) don't get it at all. Maybe you'll be a lucky one!!!
