They have done nothing for me but make my life a living hell.

Why give a shit about the greater good when most people only care about the self greater good? You are playing a losing battle.

what i give a shit about is the kind of world i have to live in. the happiness and well being of all fellow creatures who must also live in it have a direct bearing on that world and the kinds of conditions we experience in it.

the REAL greater good IS in your own personal direct natural best interests.
not because of some nontangable mumbojumbo that may or may not exist either
but simply because the more harm floating arround the more each of us are to suffer
and the more harm anyone causes, the more there is floating arround

so if YOU want YOUR world to be happy and gratifying, well you ARE living in the same world everyone else has to, no matter how much you may try or immagine yourself, to be insulated from it.

that's why. and it really is that simple.
