for tomorrow. seriously, i'd do almost anything for it to rain and we can cancel camp tomorrow. i don't want to deal with the kids tomorrow. i try to talk to them, they don't listen; i try sitting them out for a few minutes, they don't listen; i ask them what they want to do when they say they're bored and they can't come up with anything except go home and play video games.
have kids who just want to come to sports camp and sit down all day - kids don't even want to do warm up. we set up a soccer game (since i'm the clinician for soccer this week) and they don't want to play. i don't understand why they come and want to do nothing. i'm not being paid to babysit kids, i'm being paid to coach a sport, but i spend most of my day dealing with kids who act up.

Are these kids that their parents make come, or are they interested in sports?

maybe you should do something that involves soccer but doesn't involve actually playing soccer.. I don't know, kids tend to get real bored real quick.. I know I do. So just maybe mix it up. I'm sure you'll think of something.

some are made to come, some are brought because the parents don't want the kids stuck in the house all day, and some are genuinely interested in sports.

i feel bad for the kids who want to be there and learn something, so i usually split the group up and take the good kids with me.

but we've already done all the fundamentals of soccer - dribbling, kicking the ball, basic rules, throw in's....

some of these kids are bored the minute they get there and no matter how much i try to get them to do something, they won't do it, even if its something they requested....

theres a game we used to enjoy playing in sports at school, but you have to have the right kind of ball - not too hard - you have two boundary lines opposite each other but not too far apart one team are runners, and half the others are the catchers - the runners all start at one boundary line, and have to run to the other side.between them stand the catchers. The catchers have to try and hit a runner but they cannot move if they are holding the ball,if they aren't holding it they can move anywhere. They can throw the ball to another catcher who might be nearer a runner. If a runner is hit by the ball - he becomes a catcher - So basically you are left with one person who is best at dodging the ball. Then it all starts again, but you swap teams. The main rule is that catchers cannot hit anyone above the chest or else they are disqualified or have to go on the other team.It might seem a bit violent, but kids loved it,but thinking about it it was just boys who played that I think, but still..

otherwise - I'll just do a dance anyway

Would you like that rain to be accompanied by some lightning?

I did a rain dance with my dog when I was tripping long time ago and a meteor streaked across the sky. It wasn't too high up either cause l could see alot of detail in the fireball.

Sometimes tough love does the trick. Let them sit there if they want to sit there...and if they don't just want to sit, they have to play. And if they don't want to do either...then they get sent home...

IF they can't cooperate, then they don't stay...maybe your whole camp should have a sit down discussion about what is going on.
