There are four elements used in Astrology. They are fire, earth, air and water. Aries is a fire sign, and it is the first sign of the zodiac. Fire is what we all come from. It is the creative force of the universe. Pisces is a water sign and is the completion of the circle of the zodiac. The water of Pisces can be envisioned as the flowing universe that each soul rejoins at it's death. The elements earth, air, and water follow in that order. First four signs of the zodiac are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer. Every sign has an elemental quality. The elemental "triplicities" are repeated three times with the other signs of the zodiac. The triplicites always begin with fire and end with water. Signs of similar elemental qualities form harmonious relationships in the sky. Earth works well with earth, and air with air and so on. You can use this principle with human relationships. People born under an Earth sign could be described as earthy or materialistic and practical. Air signs are intellectual and thinking people. Water sign born people are emotional and feeling in nature. Fire signs are energetic, forceful and fill leadership positions. Everyone has a mixture of elements in their makeup. Get a natal chart made for yourself and you can see how every element is somewhere in each of us.
Libra is an air sign. Libra is the first sign that is above the horizon. It is symbolic of a need for relationship and intamacy with another human being. The first 6 signs are symbolic of the personality and of the ego. When Libra is reached, the man is ready to start relating to the world around him. It is not about sex. That is the next sign, Scorpio. It is about having a most personal interchange of ideas and personal matters with another person such as a spouse, a therapist, or close family member or friend. All the air signs; Gemini, Libra and Aquarius need to communicate and relate.
sweet, that actually sounds quite like me. and i'm on the cusp between libra and scorpio (i've always considered myself a libra), but the two mixed is just right. thanks!
there is no such thing as a cusp. You are either one sun sign or another, never both, but your planets and moon can influence your personality as well.
There is such a thing as a cusp for your information. It is important. You can see qualities of both signs in a cusp born sun sign native. The topic of this discussion is elements, not cusps. If you want to talk about cusps, just make a thread about cusps.
Thats correct. Aquarius is the third air sign and is symbolic of passing on information to fellow man; the water of knowledge pouring out to feed humanities thirst. Air signs can be "airheads"; very funny. Are you an air head, or are you saying that tounge in cheek? I have to mention that usually an inbalance of one element in a natal chart can lead to problems involving that element. You may overdo the element. Too much earth and you may be too materialistic, etc. If you just have one planet in an element, you are not likely to overdo that element. You may even show signs of lacking the qualities associated with the element.
Is there a correspondance between the elements and the classic humours, melancholy, phlegmatic, choloric, and sanguine?
Not that I know of. Those are all emotional states, so I think they would be under the infulence of water.
I'm a gemini, which makes me an air sign. I love sitting outside during wind storms. I get so energized to the point that some times I leave my body (out-of-body experience). I'm quite a thinker too! My mood changes as the wind changes. It's odd and hard to explain. When the wind changes direction my mood changes direction too! Any air signs experience this too?
Oh my god Bumble, you are right. I love being in the beginning of the storm with a windy breeze. I also find that when the wind changes, I get anxious and don't really know why. I feel so refreshed from standing in the wind and letting it take over my body. Thanks for pointing that out!
Hey Bumble. I noticed you mentioned mood. Maybe your moon is in a water sign, like Pisces or Cancer. That's wild about the wind blowing on you, and you being an air sign.
This is interesting... I am a Gemini sun, with a Pisces moon- how does that effect mood changes trekker?
I'm also Gemini, and I agree too. I also like the wind but at the same time I dislike it. That can be because of my changing mood then. Hmm...
